I Rule A Game!

As we were all sitting, watching, waiting, listening to the results of our days labours I had all but given up in my agenda to get the prize my PC was so Longing, A new graphics card, The old 8800 GTS I could hear in my dreams crying under the strain of yet another Bloom enhanced game, I did not know how much longer it can last under the strain. As Tim (Bit-Tech) read out the names off the list it was becoming clear I was not going to be in the first five of the 20 to be choosen for prizes but this was ok as my computer was longing for something else something more powerfull.

It wanted the Matrix GTX285 I could hear it calling out to me from the long distance home, But then the next 10 got picked off the list, I wasnt one of the lucky ones, I was 17th out of 20, That in it self was a dissapointment, Me a connicour of lans, Having worked 2 of the biggest events in the UK www.epiclan.co.uk and www.multiplay.co.uk And having years of gaming experiance and I came 17th..... Alas there was a reason for this but I will not go into it now.

But on that delightfull day I did walk out of that room with my head held high as I was victorious in securing my prize. I will explain how this came about later on in another Blog. Now I have set the tone of the story I want to explain the best feature of this card, When I first picked it up opened the flap and looking at its features one thing was drawn to me and one of my good mates Omni (also at the event) At the top of our voices we shouted "ITS GOT LED's AWESOME LED'S" suffice to say a large circumfrance of people around us took a step away and gave us "the look".

But the LED's on the "Matrix" indicate how hard the card is working and how close it is too being too hot to handle. I soon tested this feature out, As soon as I got the card home and plugged in I clocked it out of the box. Ran Futuremark vantage and watch the card instantly go into red, But MY GOD was it running smooth not even a flinch while generating all those pixels, Until that is I pushed it higher, it didnt like that and I was starting to worry about my inexperiance and so I dropped it back to stock and kept playing normally with it,

(Above is an expample of the LED's on the side of the cards, The light blue indicates it is being lightly used while the purpe is one off being in the Red)

It wasnt all smooth sailing out of the box as it came apparent that my PSU was behind the times with all the kool kids and did not have an 8 pin connecter like most nor did it have a 6+2 connecter, So I was stumped on the first hurdle, After some research we discovered that I could infact use my 6 pin power that I had, so I did and thats what is still being used now, But one of the main gripes I have with this is they supplied a 6 pin to 4 pin power cable with the card but not one for the 8 pin? I dont get why this is, as it caused me a lot of hassle,

Apart from the lack of the 8 pin converter I was very impressed with the overall design of the packaging it had kept the hardware safe and secure and the box allowed you too see the goodies inside which is brilliant to check someone hasnt swapped it out with a brick (never trust royal mail).

Overall my first impressions to this point have been good and well received, But will it stay that way? Will there be something not quite right in this Matrix? Tune in on Thursdays Blog to find out.
