I feel a little odd asking this as i have built my share of computers, but have never pushed them 24/7 Folding. Currently i'm running a 3930K@ 4.6ghz w/ 1.35v 32gb 2133memory @1.65v and 2x GTX 580's @ 1.088v running 810mhz. Core temp does not exceed 60 C and GPU temps do not exceed 45 C. would like to run perhaps 5-7 days a week any thoughts?

Plenty of us have folded for years now without any dead components so I think that says a lot. The main thing is if you have an overclock that you're not comfortable running 24/7 I would try to find a lower clock for folding.

Oh i like this OC feels real solid up 48hrs now 100% all cores and gpu's. Don't mind replacing parts ethier just kinda lookin for a time line of sorts and you gave me that. so it stay on and folding then.

thanks

Yeah, the only issues I have with folding are electricity usage and heat output. A loaded CPU has more of both but I have found a balance by folding on the CPUs and not GPU. It still warms my office but only slightly(actually pleasant during winter) and it doesn't really effect my power bill that much. It also varies depending on your rates of course. You don't really have anything to worry about with the power bill unless you go crazy folding on multiple rigs though. :D

What is drastically reducing the life of components. I think the longest I have ever ran any cpu has been 2 years whether I was folding or not. My guess would be that most who fold on the ROG team are computer enthusiast and are constantly upgrading, and 2 years would be considered a long time to run a CPU or GPU. I can say I have never had a hardware failure due to folding and I push my rigs harder than most are willing to, or feel comfortable doing. Generally I give my components to my children and grand children when I am done with them and they run them for years after. SO I think I can safely say 24/7 folding will not drastically reduce the life of your hardware.

true and good point. i'm already looking toward what ivy bridge-e might be like!

nah. he's saving a ton on heating costs!

high temperature teamed up with high voltage will kill your processor faster than anything else, it creates a perfect environment for processor degradation.:cool:

vcore= 1.325v max temp.=60C cpu and 44C on gpu's

I dont give any advice regarding OC hardware, because there are so many other factors to count in..

Regarding your concern about the vcore, i dont think you need to worry..

Not that I disagree with you to a point, but I very seriously doubt that a CPU OCed to a stable 24/7 folding capability will degrade the CPU to any noticeable measure. I run 1.47 v through my 970's and 980X 4.375Ghz to 4.5Ghz rigs 5 of them I will accept temps up to 90C I have been doing it for going on 3 years now with the oldest of the 5 and I have never had to lower the OC other than summer time when I drop it to keep them below 95C. I do not think you can torture them much worse than that and 3 years is quite a ways past what I would conceder a serious. degradation of a CPU. I can go back through 12 years of Ocing and some of my original cpu's from 12 years ago are still running in my Grandchildren s computers.

i know what you saying, im running this pc on 5,0 steady all days, no prob..

1,47 is not much, i thought he meant much higer vc..

i just tried to give him a answer what the main factors could be..

simply a misunderstanding..
