Crosshair V Formular Northbridge Overclock

Hi guys.

So right now i got my new mobo up to 2800Mhz on the NB! With 1.35 Voltage on CPU/NB

You guys think it would be safe to push it to 3000Mhz and what voltage would you recommend that i use?
and where is the ''safe'' limit for voltage on the CPU/NB? Im really scared of burning the thing off! I have set the max NB temp to 70 degrees Celsius. And it hasn't crashed yet after 3 hours of prime95. So i'm thinking about going a bit higher!

And also, there is a voltage option called NB Voltage, should i change that? So far i have only changed the CPU/NB Voltage.


Advice's needed!

Ok here's a little bit of misunderstanding again thanks to AMD, the CPU has a Northbridge as AMD calls it inside of the CPU but it's not the Northbridge chip, the CPU/NB is the link between the CPU and Memory, if you run it too far out of spec you could damage your CPU where as if you run the Northbridge chip to far out of spec you might damage your Motherboard. I know it's confusing but that's AMD for you. Bringing out a CPU that was finished and publicized 4 YEARS ago and calling it new today!

What are you saying exactly? that the cpu/nb isn't the northbridge chip? but why is it then that if i raise the cpu/nb voltage with the nb set to
2800mhz it runs stable? i can't boot my computer if i set cpu/nb to auto. I have to give it some more voltage to even boot! :confused:

If you set it to auto there is a chance that your system might not boot until you hold the GO button a few seconds and what this does is set the system to minimum known working values found aboard the configuration ROMS in the different parts like in memory you have an SPD which among other things contains a piece of Read Only Memory which in turn has the minimum values that it can run at. The same is in the CPU, HDD, CD/DVD Drive, All of your Cards so on and so forth. Now back to the AMD thingy No the CPU/NB is not your Northbridge chip of which even some Boards don't even have. AMD 's Northbridge is a different thing altogether as it's mainly the link between the Memory and the CPU and yest It has Voltage that it feeds the Memory as well as controls Data transfer Speeds and the memory itself. Only on High end MoBo's do you have the control that you see here on your CHVF board. You probably won't gain much performance by increasing the CPU/NB from 2800 to 3000MHz anyways.
I'm at 3107MHz on a 24/7 basis, but can't gain stability above 3175MHz, even with elevated CPU/NB voltages.
I've run my CPU/NB voltage as high as 1.475v w/o any issues, just leave the NB voltage on auto.

Okay, so i read it all! And i might have to read it again and maybe a third time to understand it, but thanks for the help! I'm buying the AMD FX-8120 in a few weeks, then i will look forward to overclock that *******! My old 955 Phenom have done a good job, but now it's time for opgrading a bit! Thanks HiVizMan and you other guys! i will write back as soon as i get my FX and have overclocked it a bit!

Just got the FX a week ago, i have it stable at 4.3Ghz at 1.4V, anyway i can't go over 2800Mhz on the CPU/NB for some reason. I could with my old Phenom 955' with the Crosshair IV Formular, but not with this, it just won't boot. not even bios screen comes up, just all black. I have tried giving it almost 1.5V on the CPU/NB but no luck. I think it can be solved with a new BIOS update! Or am i just doing it wrong?:confused:
