gtx590 and the HAF-X

hello everyone,

im kinda new in the costum building scene and i recently got a asus gtx590.
the question i have is maybe simple for some of you but i cant find out what to do.
the HAf-X comes with a airduct for vga cards with place for a 120mm fan (in wich i have a coolermasters trubine master 800rpm) but how should i orientate the fan?? blow air to the card or pull air away from the card?
maybe a simple question for you guys but like i said before im a noob when it comes to these things.

Welcome to the forum!

The side panel fans should always blow air inward into the case.
This will allow fresh (cooler) air to circulate over the graphic cards.
Exhaust fans need to be placed in the rear and on the top of the case.

thnx for your answer i do have the side panel sucking air in. the fan was installed that way so i didnt change it (only took out the fine mesh for a bit better flow.
the air duct i mean is the extra vga one that comes with the coolermaster HAF-X case. you can mount this air duct at the back of your vga cards. you can see it on the pictures on their site http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6653

Sorry, I see what you're talking about now, nice feature with the HAF-X.

I would try it blowing air over your GTX590, then monitor your GPU temps.

i could do that but that would mean i had to put my card in the pcie x16 2 slot (manaul recommends putting it in the first) so the only way i can mount it now is blowing air on the back and under the card. i have a x58a ud3r mb from gigabyte maybe you know i the slot i put it in really matters?

Honestly, I really don't think that you need it.
The HAF series design provides outstanding airflow as it is.
The 200mm side fan should provide adequate air intake for the GTX590.

If you decide to use it, placing the 590 in x16 slot 2 should work fine.

One 120mm fan isn't going to impact temperatures much, if at all. It might keep it 1-2C cooler (maybe).

i have a haf x,i installed a vantec spectrum pci slot case cooler,i have it pointed at my sapphire 6870 card,it has two 70 mm fans and probaly will cool better then one 120 mm fan,just a thought

wel i tryed it out in the end.. results: no 120mm fan came to about 74c on gaming load and with fan it came to 70c under gaming load. (fans speed auto)
so 4c difference not all that impressive but then again its something..

I was actually about to test this out ove the weekend, gaming with and with out the vga fan duct, not sure if i need it or not, I had bought a red sikle flow to place in it, but can hardly see it the way the HDD cage is, if i do in fact take it out , i may test my case with the sikle flow where the 140 mm fan is at the rear of the case. Dont think my card is heavy enough to require the vga support bracket that can also hold a fan, tho i may test it just to see what gives me better temps.

The 120mm will push air in between the gpu's.. Thats the purpose with that fan..

So would the 120 MM SikleFlow fan be better placed at the back of the HAF X where the 140 mm fan is?

I didn't use mine as I'm pretty sure it wouldn't fit, as I'm running 2x GTX580 Matrixes. Also I wouldn't run it even if it fitted as it's a huge eyesore.

I like the inside of my case to be as clean and minimalistic as possible.

Yeah that's for everybody a different choice and thats good otherwise we would have all the same systems LOL.

I just figured any extra air for my Gtx 580 would be a good thing, I did remove the VGA duct tho, and replaced the rear 140 with the Sikleflow, I didnt notice any difference really in my GPU temps, but it seems my cpu temp has drop 1-2 C. then again with out me OCing anything and the cooling i have I probably have no worries as far as temps go .
