Hey Guys, I'm new to this forum & wonder if you can help. Hope I've put this in the right place, I know how some ppl get annoyed by threads in the wrong place.

I purchased a crosshair v formula/thunderbolt through amazon a few weeks ago, I was planning on keeping my phenom II 1100t cpu from my old build, however I had problems with the cpu being stuck to the heatsink when I removed the heatsink it basically bent some of the cpu pins so it was naff.

I then purchased a fx-8120 as I couldn't get a phenom II 1100t replacement from anywhere. While waiting for my cpu I discovered this forum & found out about the bios issues so I checked my mobo to find it was an older version using 0705. So to my annoyance I ordered the sempron so I could update the bios via a USB stick & the am3 cpu, which I found out about on these forums.

Today the sempron arrived I built the pc updated the bios to 1301? rebuilt using the fx-8120 & the pc booted so I could get into the bios. I had the SATA SSD drive (ocz agility 120gb) connected to SATA 1, a SATA Samsung Blu-Ray drive (both SSD & blu-ray drive are brand new) connected to SATA 4. Going into the bios & making the blu-ray drive the primary boot saving & exiting I am now getting the following error:- "Reboot & Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device & press any key"

I have tried trying taking the SATA cables out & re-seating, I have reverted to the 1102 bios, I have made sure that it is in ACHI (default), obviously with a windows 7 64-bit disc in the optical drive. I still can't get it to install windows.

Do you guys have any ideas or know exactly how to solve it as so far I haven't found an answer. Help is much appreciated, sorry for the long post but hey this is what I have done & for some reason I am stuck at this point on my 1st build.

Have you used the disk before? is the drive spinning up?

Try connecting your BluRay drive to the ASMedia port, it's the SATA port just off to the side of the block of 6 SATA ports and give it a go from there then go into your BIOS and select the BluRay Drive from there and reboot. Let us know how that works :)

Thanks for your posts..In answer to your questions the SSD drive is brand new so I am assuming it works, when it starts up it sounds like something is happening with the drive.

I have also tried the blu-ray/dvd drive combo in the SATA controller below the main bank of SATA connectors, then going into BIOS and telling it to boot from there but this also hasn't helped.

anything else I can try?

Ok I changed the SATA cable & rechecked the BIOS setting to make the Blu-ray drive the master, saved & exited the BIOS. THe system restarted got past the BIOS screen & it's now saying:-

Intel (R) Boot Agent GE v1 . 3. 51
copyright (c) 1997-2010, Intel Corporation

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

Reboot & select proper boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected boot device & press a key

any ideas what to do as the cables to both the blu-ray drive/ssd drive are connected correctly with power going to both.

I take it you are wanting to install OS.

If yes and you have your WIndows7 disk - go to a mates house and use the official Microsoft Win7 USB OS tool to convert your disc to a USB stick.

Use that to install the OS.

When that is done we will fix any problems if any your BluRay is having.

if not the problem post back and we will start over :)

Is the win 7 disk new? Make sure theres no fingerprints on it.

someone else might be able to answer this, would it matter what kind of cable was used used? or is there any variation in SI/II/III cables?

Sorry for the delay in response guys been working & all, I was trying things u suggested came up with the idea that the disc I had wasn't actually bootable. I went round a friends the other day tried another disc & there we go window 7 64-bit installed.

I am now trying to get things all up & running, so I can finally use this board & all my other components.
Currently running:-
AMD fx-8120
16gb DDR3 vengeance RAM
2x GTX 560ti
120gb OCZ Agility SSD
1TB seagate barracuda
1200w PSU

thanks for your help guys. I could have had it up & running if the disc that I thought was bootable actually was.
