well first off i'm new here :)
this is my build
asus crosshair V formula
amd phenom II
8gbx2 corsair vengance ram
400gb wd hdd
250gb wd hdd

the problem i'm having is that i can get into bios and to the boot menu. Once i choose cd it runs xp setup for a bit then i get a ntdlr missing ctrl+alt+del to reset.
if i choose my hdd it resets.
trying to figure out if what i got wrong wether in the hookup or bios.
got my 400 going to sata 0, other hdd and optical drives going to 1-4 sata.
bios is set to default settings.
i know its gotta be a corrupt boot file. but i can't even format or repair windows. the keyboard and mouse stop working when i get to those screens. and i have usb set to legacy.
any ideas?

just to clarify the hook up
ok i have the bootable hdd on sata 0( the stand alone sata connector)
i have my other hdd dvd player and dvd burner on sata 1-3 on the 1-6 connectors is this correct or is there a certain way i should have these in there?

I'm not the CHVF expert like HiVizMan but from what I've done on the CHIVF you need to hook up the DVD Burner into the Single SATA connector and the HD to the SATA port 1, Now the Funky thing is in BIOS set the SATA Ports to HD and the SATA Speed to SATA II or SATA300 because XP doesn't Support ACHI out of the box unless your on Service Pack 2 or better and even then it's Hit and Miss thing. The Motherboard seems to like setting the Speeds manually for some stupid reason. I know if I don't it will default to SATA III or SATA600 and refuse to boot at all.

Keep us informated as to how it pans out.

It sounds like you might have a slightly corrupted BIOS? Download your fav BIOS (not sure the latest is the one you need think it was 705 for pre Bulldozer but might me wrong here) and extract to a FAT formatted USB stick.
Boot into BIOS
F5 enter
F10 enter
Back into BIOS
Navigate to Tools
EZflash2
and flash your bios.
