View Full Version : Sound still coming out from speakers with headphones plugged in

I have the G75VW-AS71 (Amazon model) and am having an issue with the sound sometimes. The sound still comes out of the speakers when I plug in headphones. If I click on the speaker icon to mute it and then unmute it, then the sound only comes out of the headphones as intended. I couldn't find any setting that would disable the speakers if headphones are plugged in.

The driver I have for the VIA Audio Deck is current, according to the ones available on the ASUS Driver Page for the G75VW.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Dunno if it'll be the same or not, but with my G74SX I started having that issues out of the blue about a month ago. I ended up d/l the latest drivers for the audio from the manufacturer site instead of ASUS, fixed my issue. I had done a fresh Win7 install, used the drivers from the ASUS site which didn't work for some reason.

There is another thread that is dealing with audio issues in greater detail, but I assume this is a by-product of the fact that the sub woofer is being used when in headphone mode. You might want to turn off MonoBass (Windows Audio Settings) or LFE slider to 0 if using the VIA Deck software.

If it's just 1 point above off, you'll most likely get sound out of the sub woofer. I think I noticed that as apart of my testing last night trying to narrow down the audio issues that some of us have noticed.

+1
I've had an issue with sound out of both on my G73 and it was because I had old drivers.

Yes - having the exact same problem with the exact same laptop. (G75VW-AS71 from Amazon)

Are you also experiencing "random audio and graphic spikes (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?14960-G75VW-random-audio-and-graphics-spike)"?

I am also experiencing this. What i do is, Go to speaker properties and on enhancements tab uncheck the 2.1 channel.

That disables the subwoofer though, right? That is an unacceptable "workaround".

Got mine from CompUSA / TigerDirect -
Returned it - Paid return shipping
Got a new one...
Same problem...

Plug headphones in, Leave them in - walk away from PC, it goes to sleep
Come back - log in
Chime from windows (ie sound) can be heard from the laptop speakers - loud too...
But the Headphones are still plugged in...
Updated audio driver -

Re-imaged (using recovery DVDs)
Would be nice for BIOS update or firmware or sound drivers to be fixed...

Yes, I tried using multiple headphones..
Yes I did ASUS update

No I don't have any additional hardware installed...

I can't attest to any other problems - only used the laptop 3 or 4 times -
and I don't play games - so not sure of the graphic card performance..
G75VW
It is less than a week old -

I have tons of ASUS stuff - including a P79X Pro MB and a few eeePC's
This is sad for me - tech support wants me to mail my laptop to them -
screw that -
they will just send me another one w/ same problem...

I have G75 (bestbuy model) I also experience this issue. It seems to happen intermittently. I get audio that randomly starts playing out of speakers whenever it decides to do so. To fix it I have to unplug the headset and replug them back in again.

It is random problem - I can't find the exact pattern.

Another way I have seen this happen:

1.) put a DVD in - w/ headphones plugged in
2.)Watch DVD with windows media player
3.)pause DVD for 10-15 minutes
4.)hit play on windows media player (headphones still plugged in)
5.)audio comes out headphones as well as laptop speakers

I have this problem, but here is a temp fix, I just unplug and replug the headphones while the audio is still on, it seems to do the trick for me. It's quick temp fix.

You are right, unplug and plug back in and that fixes the problems.

i don't think it is a hardware issue, it seems to be a driver issue.

i uninstalled the via drivers and let windows sort out its own drivers. this has completely solved this problem, however using the Fn+volume keys no longer change the volume when headphones are plugged in, only when on speakers.

One CRITICAL issue with just using windows generic drivers is that the built-in microphone as-****ty as it is, won't work at all!

yeah, as they said up there ^ it has happened to a few people, not me though *fingers crossed* but you will probably have more luck in the original thread, we are waiting on that and another issue to get fixed.

I have the same problem... G75VW. Have had this problem for quite a while now. I noticed that when I had headphones plugged in, I would hear some sound from the laptop speakers BUT noticed it was EXCLUSIVELY coming from the subwoofer. So whenever I want to use headphones, I go into the speaker properties (VIA High Definition Audio), and under the Enhancements tab and deselect the 2.1 output option. This restricts the audio signal from going to the subwoofer period, fixing the problem. Only now I have to do the opposite whenever I don't want to use headphones or any auxiliary audio system. Not a big problem tho. Hope this may help some of you!

Latest drivers from Station Drivers seem to add an option for redirected headphones and independent headphones. Redirected fixed this problem instantly.

Thanks for this, I've been having this problem on my G55VW. But why is this driver available from this random french website when it doesn't exist on the manufacturer's website? I guess I'm a little bit leery of installing a driver from a third party.
