Hey Everyone

This is my first build.

Here is what I have:

PC Case
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/cases/cases/z9plus.html

Windows 7 64bit Genuine and Validated

Intel I7 2700K 3.50GHz

Asus Maximus Extreme Rev 3 p67 B3 Revision
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/Maximus_IV_Extreme/

GeForce 9500GS

8GB Corsair 4x2GB
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/memory-pc/ddr3-pc3-12800/1600mhz/cmx4gx3m2a1600c9.html

Antec High Current Gamer 750w Power Supply
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/antec-hcg-750-atx-psu-750w-10934269-pdt.html?srcid=867&cmpid=comp~Google~~10934269&istCompanyId=9a35962d-802d-4e67-9721-0a3328ca1f02&istItemId=ilrilqrx&istBid=t&gclid=CKy39uagqLACFcUmtAodS0zjXw

Wireless Adapter
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/networking/wirelessnetworking/wirelesspcicards/nov-150wpc.html

2x1TB Samsung HDD
1X500GB HDD

So here is my problem. Before this build I had a stock pc which had Windows 7 32bit, Quad Core 4.2GHz CPU, 3GB Ram. I do home recording and my plugins could not run due to lack of ram and CPU kept over powering (if that's the right word to use) so i thought i would build a pc with the money I had.

I so built one with the specs above. I thought it would just be the case of buying a mother bored and buying components to go in it and it would just work (obviously i took note of QVL list and chip socket etc) I was then faced with the Bios?!?! I had never seen anything like it. Anyway...I didn't think much of it until my pc started up MUCH slower to my last considering my I7 2700k being up there with the top range stuff.

I've been through forums, pages, friends etc and I still don't know how to set up my bios to make it faster. Ive been through the manual too but it seems the manual assumes that the person reading knows what they are talking about or experienced.

Sorry to go on but I hope someone can help guide me in the right direction on what I need to do to make my processor faster etc

Hey blinkyatroom182 , can you let me know what was your previous build ? can you tell us what's the problem with the CPU being over powering ? i doubt is the correct term unless you give us a full picture of your problem before you build a new rig ? Do you even oc your previous pc ?

althought i'm new here, there are sections that can guide you how to set up your pc in this forums , from Bios , Mobo , Ram , Graphics and etc.Hence you can even ask the ROG'ers over here for advises and they will gladly help you out in no time !

whats your current budget for your new rig ? this is the foremost clarification first , if money is not an object to you then u might as well get the i7 3770k is just a couple of extra more than the old 2700k. Another problem i see is your graphics card, its probably time to change it already. What sort of home recording do you do ??? please clarify ?

blinkyatroom182, welcome to the ROG forum!

Indeed, we do need a little more details...

Based on your mobo and CPU your system should be very fast... however, they are other things which influences the speed of a system...

Could you provide the actual setting for your CPU and memory (from BIOS or CPU-Z)?
What is the exact make and model of your HDDs? How much of their capacity is filled?

Startup time is based more on how many things need to be initialized, not the speed of the CPU. On a full featured board with lots of controllers and devices to initialize the boot time can be longer than a commodity board with few features and a faster CPU. I would worry more about your performance once you are booted. How is your gaming performance?

Sorry for the late repy.

Thank you so much for the replies guys.

This is my first build. My last PC come from PC world. I've never overclocked any computer before and have never thought about doing so.

I'm not a gamer first off, even my brother said "why the hell did you get a gamers mobo, this is complicated". I do home recording and producing and my other pc was not powerful enough. I needed more ram and a faster processor.

Forget i said anything about the over powering of the cpu, it was my music program being a dooche bag with my audio interfaces.

Ive now manged to install Asus Al suite and let it do its thing by over clocking my pc to the "Fast" state...NOT "Extreme" as im a little worried about pressing that button but i don't see much of a performance change.

Heres my cpuz validation: http://valid.canardpc.com/cache/banner/2394279.png (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2394279)

All i know is that my 2 x 1TB are Samsung 32mb cache 7200rpm and my 500gb is WD 32mb cache 7200 although im looking at buying the WD Black Caviar 1TB 64mb cache 7200rpm

Hope this helps

Hello!:)

Hmmm. When did you take the CPUz screenshot....while the PC was idle or running something? I'm presuming idle....

Yeah... that's pretty slow for a 2700k... but the system may be in idle - where the CPU will down clock if the power saving features are on in BIOS. Normally, if you start using/stressing the CPU that value would go up. Start a CPU benchmark and see if it goes higher!

A simply way to check your system's speed is to do benchmarks and compare the results with others - like 3D Mark, has a site to compare the results.
