So according to the manual I should place my 2 GTX 580s in slot 1 and 4.
Would there be a significant reduction in performance if I were to place the 2 cards in slot 1 and 5 instead? Would that still let me run both cards at 8x? How can I test the performance differential?
I would like to do this because I currently do not have a water cooling system installed and thus, spacing the cards out drops the temperature down by 10-15 degrees Celsius. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
There may be a minor performance hit, but it will depend on the game title and the resolution. Most of the time it comes down to a max of 5~7 FPS worst case scenario.

So, in your opinion, what do you suggest I do?
Currently the cards (2x GTX 580) idle at 36C/33C and under extreme load (furmark extreme burn) go up to 65C-70C. I assume this will increase by around 10C if I place them one PCIe slot closer. Is that bad? or is running roughly 10C warmer not that big of a deal in your opinion?

I just found this diagram:
http://www.techreaction.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/MIVE_PCIe.jpg
I have x16 to the NF200 chipset but I only have x8 from the NF200 chipset to the CPU but when I go through the NF200 I get a tiny delay.
So i guess what it comes down to is whether or not 70-80C is acceptable for SLI under load or is it better to take a performance hit and go for 60-70C instead? Im mainly just wondering if those temps for 2 GTX 580s are okay.

From a longevity standpoint, I think you'll be okay in both scenarios. The GPUs are designed with the levels of heat you mention in mind.

Is tri sli in pci # 1 ,2 and 4 ok ? i wanted to get maximum spacing between the three cards .
will i have any problems bridging between that setup ?

Not if you use flexible ribbon bridges.
