First and foremost i am completely new to Asus motherboards and Sata 3.

I have installed the windows 7 drivers, plugged my sata 3 seagate (which works in sata2) into the sata 3 port with a sata 3 cable, it detects in BIOS but windows WILL NOT SEE IT.

I am just about to ring asus support or RMA the hdd.

Anyone got any ideas?

Does the drive show up in Disk Management? I assume the drive is already partitioned/formatted, if not, you need to go to Disk Management and do that before Windows explorer will see the drive.

Otherwise, if available, plug the drive into one of the SATA2 (Intel) ports. You'll get equal speed and more consistentent performance this way.

I plugged it into the jmicron and it works.

It seems like the Sata 3 drivers for the marvell are not working, could somebody link me them?

Ive tried all the ones on the asus support.

The Marvell controller doesn't need drivers to function, by default it will use the Microsoft (MSAHCI) driver. Alternatively the latest Marvell driver can be downloaded here: http://www.station-drivers.com/telechargement/marvell/sata/marvell_91xx_1.2.0.1003_whql(www.station-drivers.com).exe

As I said previously though, unless you've run out of Intel ports, I'd use those.

So why wouldnt it work if the correct drivers where installed?

I'm not sure why it wouldn't work. I've previously used the Marvell controller for eSATA, and used a lot of disks without issue. Have you tried any other disks on either of the Marvell SATA3 ports?

Ill get another Sata 3 HDD and test it, it was a brand new seagate.

WIKCHI,
I see your pretty set on using the Sata 3 ports.

Before you waste to much more time on them, I suggest reading this: http://communities.intel.com/thread/19714?start=0&tstart=0

At least then you can make a more informed decision.

If you have the Rampage III Black Edition then here's the solution to your problem:

You also may need to upgrade the your hard drive's firmware, check your manufacturer's drive to see if they have a firmware update.

If you have the Rampage III Extreme it has the Marvell 88SE9128 SATA III Controller which is only a 1 lane PCIe contoller. It's total garbage. If this is the case definitely use the Intel SATA II ports you'll have much better performance in RAID.
