Hi,
I also have the same problem (Roccat Kave 5.1).
I'm on Win7 64bit SP1, i have the latest sound drivers and the latest BIOS. The sound is excellent and all five, but the mic is just too quiet.
My friends barely hear me talking, especially while we playing a game.
Purely to mention that i never had these problems with another brand motherboard.

Very Strange!
Did you set the audio device output AC97 or HD audio mode in the bios manual?

When Mic boost is active then ppl hear more distorsion then me. On my old Asus 890GTD pro/usb 3 i didnt had any problems.
I tried front and back panel and its the same.
PS: I tried Mic on laptop and its working perfect there.

I have the same problem. Mic is too quiet. As well, Mic Boost at 10% is as high as you want to go for its usage. Any higher, and it distorts the output.

I have a similar problem on the Crosshair V Formula/Thunderbolt and my solution was in the Creative Console. Before I installed the Creative Software I had Great Audio and didn't have to add Mic Boost at all but after install all of my Volumes dropped through the floor. Between the Creative console and the separate THX Console I was able to get most everything working great again but I still have to use a +10 Boost now. The other thing I've noticed was the Activity Bar in the Sound Control Panel barely moves but in all of my other app's the Mic works Perfectly.

I hope this helps with a possible solution.

The Formula Z only comes with the Realtek HD Audio Manager. As far as I know. I don`t think the Forumla Z has the Creative or THX console. But thx just the same.

I can confirm under Windows 8 64 bit same issue low mic volume no matter what settings I fiddle with. 3 different headsets 2 usb 1 analog mic boost set at 10 any higher does help but unusable.

Gods I hate all the bragging bout this motherboard. The Crosshair III I had.... its audio kicked the living crap out of the Formula Z. Gamers buy high end motherboards... and gamers use voice com. FIX the issue!!!!!!! If they don`t, this is the absolutte last ROG product I buy.

Just want to add my voice. Having the same problem, very quiet or no sound from my microphone (I'm plugged into the back port too). I thought my mic was dying, but then I used it with my laptop and everything was fine.

I just uninstalled the realtek hd audio driver and let windows install its own- people on C3 can hear me again.

let me ask, have you checked in sound options (windows settings) under communication and does it have adjust volumes on communication programs ?
