Hi guys
yesterday arrived this fantastic ram kit based on elpida hyper ic. http://www.guru3d.com/article/adata-ddr32200-dram-xpg-plus-2-review/11
now i need some support to get them run stable on my amd system.

I cant boot loading the xmp profile (in the d.o.c.p.) that is
2200 8-8-8-24-1T @ 1.65v

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/1006/img2297l.th.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/109/img2297l.jpg/)

but also with the gskill trident I couldnt boot at 2133 but at 2000 yes.

I've set 2000 cl8 and got error after memtest at 19% (20-25 minutes)

If i set ecc mode disabled I've got blue screen as I enter windows 7.

I think I've to relax subtimings, I can see vary timings very short, as 3 - 4.

this is my bios settings

Hi,

If that kit is Elpida Hyper based then you will top out somewhere around DDR3-1750~1900 depending upon timings. Set 6-6-6-18 timings, and start at DDR3-1700 and work your way up slowly.

yes it is elpida hyper based on.
so you are sayng that i couldnt run it at 2000?
what about the timings?

can you please tell me some settings to try?

i ve red the edit in your post, I'll try, thank you

ive setted 1700 6-6-6-18 leaving others timings to auto.
i m running memtest hci (from windows, all unused ram tested) and no errors at the moment (only 10% coverage, maybe 20 minutes running)
how much should I leave memtest running to consider these settings "stable" and go forward?

thanks for support ;)

Aim for 300% coverage. Use multiple instances (as many as you have cores) to speed things up a bit. After that you can run Prime95 if you wish.

Hey Liberato87,

Did you get your system stable ? Make sure you turn off ECC. Its turned on by default and causes all sorts of instability issues.

@Raja,

Are you able to get in touch with Asus engineers and tell them to fix this f*ck up ? ECC needs to be disabled by default.

I'm testing with ecc enabled.
As i wrote in the first post

Well then, you have other issues.
ECC needs to be turned off if you do not have ECC ram.
If you get BSOD when entering Windows with ECC turned off, something else is causing it.
Personally, i would put all RAM timings / settings on AUTO, and put ECC OFF. But first, do a BIOS reset by removing the battery and removing all power from board.
See how that goes.

I passed memtest with ecc enabled, so no issues, dont?!
I've no issues and I know what am I doing (thats my 2nd kit of elpida hyper ram.. I would not pay lot of money in RAM if I dont know the bases lol)

I appreciate your reply but I dont have to put timings to auto..
please, I'm talking with raja and I would like to continue this thread with him.

I'm not saying I would keep it private.
I've told everything in the first post.
I've start with raja and I'm following his instructions because he knows lot of things more than me and you!

If you have a problem with ecc start your own thread.
I've appreciated your partecipation and I've answered you
-as i wrote in the first post I've left ecc enabled and no issues. I've issues when I disable it.
-I dont need to leave all to auto because auto here would be 2200 8-8-8-24 and as I already wrote I couldnt boot with that settings (also because xmp profile is for intel)

Check CPU/NB voltage and VDIMM. If those two do not help, then you will need to start tuning drive strengths. Start with DQ (the DQ lines toggle more than any other) and work upwards through the list monitoring the change in Memtest failure time.

-Raja

I tried 1750 6 6 6 18 1t
with
cpu-nb 1.275
dram voltage 1,675

and got error with memtest at 120% coverage (so I had an improvement)
this ram kit is tested to work with 1,55v - 1,75v so i think 1,675 is absolutely safe dont?

what should I do now?

thank you very much!

If you have reached the end for what voltage tuning brings to stability you need to move to adjusting drive strengths.

liberato87

If you have reached the end for what voltage tuning brings to stability you need to move to adjusting drive strengths.

Yep, raja told me so.
I dont think I have reached the end of voltage tunings because I could raise voltage even to 1,75 (the kit is rated for 1,55v to 1,75v)

I noticed an improvement rasing to 1.65 to 1.675, before I've got error under memtest at 55-60% coverage, then error at 120% coverage.
maybe I could raise voltage to 1,70 to see what happen?
or do you think it is too high voltage for only 50mhz?

What should I do to drive strenghts?

I red in the guide

DQS Drive Strength: Sets the buffer drive strength of the DQS lines. At high memory frequency try a setting of 0.75X on GSKill Flare and Elpida Hyper. Other Elpida die favor 1X~1.25X.

And I can see also other advised for elpida hyper memory.
So I should set this and see if it give me improvements?

I ll read again the raja guide to overclock but help and advertises are appreciated because I dont know absolutely nothing about drive strenghts

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4580/img2296t.th.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/221/img2296t.jpg/)

anyway sorry for my basic english but this is not my first language.
thanks to everybody

Hi,

Before you raise VDIMM any further, I would try tuning the drive strengths. Try lower on DATA first and see if it helps extend the time it takes for Memtest to fail. It is a slow process, so you will have to invest a lot of time into this - work through the list systematically. If DATA at 1X helps, then try 0.75X, if 1X is better then set 1X and then try lower on DQS (0.75X) and so on.

1 question
now if I enter bios I've got a stutter after few seconds and I can only reboot..
Why? I've to do a clear cmos?

Not much I can suggest if you have a phobia of beta BIOSes. Either use 0506 or use 0038 as suggested.

no phobia LOL.
I didnt understand "not much I can suggest if you have a phobia of beta bioseses"..

I've little overclock knowledge.. Im not extreme user, I do everything in safety and for me is very helpful to follow your indications.

I'm conservative. I always watch other user update the bios and when they notice that everything is ok I update too.
Now the problem is that I have some bios instability so I would not update nothing because I have stutter when entering the bios.
Should I do a clear cmos?

Are you serious ??? You've spent all this time doing what Raja told you to do and you're still on original bios ??

OMG !!!

Asus website clearly states that 0506 provides better system stability and here you are still using original bios..

Unbelievable... and on top of that you won't use a beta bios.

update.

after doing some test I've noticed that it is better

1800 7-7-7-21 than 1600 6-6-6-18

http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/2965/aida64adata2200xpg66618.png

Latency, write and read better in 1800 7-7-7-21 but memory copy lower. Which should I prefer?

I've tested 1838 7-7-7-21 1T (cpu 4020 ghz, NB 2987) with memtest and after 300% coverage only 1 error in one of the six istance I've run.

Im moving forward to make this settings prime95 stable. I would increse the nb as far as I can.

hi guys
need some help..

I tried these settings I've already tried before (already done memtest with 300% coverage)

- bus 229
- ram 1838 7-7-7-21 1T @ 1.65v
- cpu 4020 @ 1.4375
- NB 2987 @ 1.325

after saving changes in bios the main wont post and shut down (no post, fan at maximum rpm for less than 1 second and shut down..) !
It is strange this shut down! When I could not post usaully the led power of screen blink and I have not a post, but there was no shutdown!
It seems strange because with these settings on previous bios I could post and also I've done memtest.

After that I re entered the previous settings I use in my daily use (prime95 stable) and the main give me the same problem, no post and shut down! Power on the system again no post and shut down after few seconds..
what is happened?

Now I entered bios and selected "load optimized default"...
I've made the post and after doing a reboot I re entered the settings of my daily use and the boot was done without problems..

"If i set ecc mode "disabled" I've got blue screen as I enter in windows 7."

You answered your own question.. ECC mode is correcting flow errors allowing O.S. to boot. The Voltage you will need to run at your targeted speed will most likely damage your CPU refer to page 3-10 of your manual they warn that any voltage over 1.65 DRAM voltage can damage the CPU and you will need more than this to achieve the 2200 stable.

Have you red at that page that the warning begin with "according to Intel CPU spec"?
I think that warning was "copy-paste" from the others asus motherboards manual, becuase I think it is referring to sandy bridge platform.

FYI I've run a kit of ocz with chip micron rated 7-6-6 @ 1.9v for months, on the crosshair IV (ram were also in the qvl) and the Crosshair V and my cpu is here, still alive.

this bios seems not so stable so far.

now if I enter the settings I've tried few days ago and which I've made the aida screen

I assume you're right.

whats "peg back"? sorry english its not my first languge..

anyway with the old settings

1090t 4ghz
nb 2800mhz
ram 1600 6-6-6-18 1T

I'm still stable also with the new bios.
But it is strange that when I move something and I cant boot, after that, if i Load this profile from bios, It doesnt boot too.
I've to clear cmos or load default settings, make the boot, and then load the profile to make it work..

With the new bios I thought I could improve ram stability.. So I'll wait to bulldozer.

Peg back the overclock means don't overclock CPU or NB as high and see if it still happens. The 9 series boards really are for BD CPUs mainly, so my advice to you would be to get the board stable and leave it be until you upgrade.

You can actually run DRAM voltage up to 1.70v, this has been confirmed with G.Skill techies when running 1.50-1.65v modules.
It's highly unlikely that you will ever get 2200 speed with any AMD CPU that's on the market right now, including the Thuban X6.
I thoroughly tested a 2x4GB 2133 Mushkin set with my 1090T and CH4F, best I could do (100% stable) was 2087MHz.
Just ordered 2x4GB 2133 CL9 G.Skill set in anticipation of BD, but will do initial testting with my 1090T and CH5F.

Bios 0705

24/7 with CPU overclock of 4.017GHz (use 4.14GHz only for benching), voltages:
CPU - 1.468750
CPU/NB - 1.375000
DRAM - 1.65625
NB HT - 1.2750
Digi+ VRM/Power Control - all settings at default

The Flares at this speed & timings (with all dimms populated) puts a tremendous amount of stress on the IMC.
I can't get stability much above 2007MHz, but no sweat with just 2x2GB modules (I'm running two sets).
This is why I have ordered 2x4GB G.Skill 2133 CL9, it will be less stressful for the IMC.

I ordered that GSkills 2133 2x4GB CL9's and they work great.. I am really curious about your testing. Right now I am at 250X16 running the DIMMS at 1.6625 to get them stable in Memtest+/Prime95. With CPU/NB& HT at 2750/2250 it seems to fly. However, if I leave Prime running too long the system throws a non-descript service exception and reboots - I think it is NB temps but hard to say since I am not monitoring those. Could you share your testing config for your 1090T when you get it all worked out?

It's a BAD idea to try and set memory and/or cpu settings in windows, I would remove it from your system as it could well be causing some of your problems.
