View Full Version : The next big Rampage?

I have assumed that it would be an x79 REIV,
But Now Ivy seems to be right around the corner.
Really compared to the bench's I have seen so far...
Nothing seems to even come close to leaving an i7-980/990x RE3 in the dust yet.
At ROG prices I am hoping Ivy brings enuff distance in peformance.
Are there any announced plans for the next Rampage Extreme yet?

"leaving an i7-980-990x in the dust...yet" ....hahaha.. but you know it will be a ROG board that does..
Thats awesome.
If we want better than a ROG board...we just have to wait until they come out with the next one.. good point..claydough.c.
EDIT TO BELOW:::
Raja.......hahha...coming from you..thats all we need to start drooling...a board your excited about? We gotta see this. Can't wait.
I see an Intel cpu in my future..thnx.
ummmm... can you not tell us something about the AM3+'s future....ok..pushing it..hehe.c.

The next Rampage is not a board you will want to miss if you are an ROG fan. It is the most comprehensive board we have ever made. That's all I can tell you guys right now.

ill leak some info on the next rampage, it allows you to put in a CPU, some memory, some graphic cards, its definitely got some USB connections, sata connections, and has heatsinks. thats all i can say at the moment as well...

No, we need at least three IDE/PATA connectors, I have like 15 of the best of the best DVD±R burners ever made and they were all IDE back then. Long live the discontinued BenQ drives. LOL

Haven't read anything about an "Extreme" "Black" enthusiast line for Ivy bridge yet.
All the preview articles point to modest cpu gains but better GPU empowerment.
Like: faster encoding, triple monitor support and 4kX4k resolutions.
However, enthusiasts will probably wanna OC kepler/maxwell in their PCI-E 3 instead.
Additionally, Bench addicts want higher cpu scores and CG artists ( self included ) ultimately want
as many threads for overclocked graphic rendering in Autodesk and Photoshop.
I guess it will be awhile till an extreme 12/16?/128?? threaded ivy "extreme" cpu comes out?
In which case I am betting that the next best thing will be an x79 motherboard? Seriously doubt that
the Asus ROG line will not have an "LGA 2011 Sandy Bridge-E( extreme )" home for Intel's
flagship 6 Core i7-3960X
( in addition to native USB 3.0, I wonder if there will be any bolt action yet? )http://www.intel.com/content/dam/staging/image/Kim/lightpeak-cables.jpg
That could be very nice... also ( hopefully ) with mebbe a "stable" 6GBs RAID solution "included"?
could be a Gigabyte/MSI killing bombshell.
On the other hand, for a **personal Highend Content Creation uber nerd solution...
the numbers of both i7-2600k and i7-3960X are still not impressive enough compared to
what my current R3E and i7-990x can offer.
Considering what looks like **modest gains for my needs and the $1450 dollar cost of entry on
a REIV / intel-E combination. I will probably have to wait both the sandy-e and first gen Ivy rounds out!:(
( waiting and hoping for joy in an Ivy "extreme" / RAMPAGE solution. )
**CG werkstation numbers like:
Photoshop

and 3d rendering
( Here the CPU numbers being relevent to my rendering needs )
http://media.bestofmicro.com/Z/5/307121/original/Cinebench.png
for ubernerd cg enthusiast needs:
Compared to the 6 core AMD solution an i7-990x purchase makes sense as render time is nearly halved!
However I would be hard pressed to consider the 10% impovement an i7-3960X gives me worth spending $1450!
!! furthermore I am nearly rewarded 20% render times by skipping sandybridge( 2600k ) and sticking to the lga-1366 and a 2 core advantage.
unless there is some kind of "multi-cpu" magic you have cooking like in the concept.
Always fun to see what may come may bench.

Edited my last post from last night. ( was late at night with little sleep when first posted )
Also edited to emphasize main concern: When doing actual work, what gains might one actually get considering current bench results?
and 3d rendering

Unlike many bench tests, here I believe the cinebench should be representative of real usage ( render time is render time right? )
In many other bench/comparisons a 2600k already beats my RE3 solution but not in numbers that concern my wallet.
In which case, I am really curious if a claim of "head and shoulders" above the rest includes a cinebench?

I am very excited to see some details! And what the deuce? This pic shows a dual CPU ROG concept! That is very exciting to me, what confuses me is that it appears that one slot uses 3 channels of RAM and the second uses 4... Very interesting. Also of note, the layout looks like a server board, particularly with the SATA ports along the bottom which look suspiciously like the configuration to support ASUS PIKE...
*@ASUS, can you at least give us a soft timeline on when any info with be released on the RIV? Also will the ROG community here be lucky enough to get the info a little bit ahead of the rest of the world? (That would be super-cool!)

This is a two cpu tease. Strictly a prop for things to come.
My favorite thing is the GOD Bless Japan w/ ROG Logo stamped on the corner...

Concept motherboard: Danshui Bay (pronounced Dan Shway Bay). It combines LGA1366 and future LGA2011 platforms on a single motherboard.

As silly as this sounds, I would love to see an ROG take on a dual socket Opteron board. This proposes an interesting topic for debate: What would the ROG brand bring to server technology if they decided to develop it? Off hand I cannot think of how one could "ROG" a server board, but I would be interested in what the community could think up. All fun and speculation of course.

I don't think there is such a disconnect between the enthusiast and server board teams. They both have the ability to have any of the features from the other but they don't because that's not what the target market is looking for. The product lines are all about the demographics. Something under the title of Republic of _Gamers_ wouldn't sell well in the business market because they would (understandably) assume that they weren't the target market based on the gamer name. And in practical terms they have little need for overclocking, high end audio, etc. Now, if you mean bringing more server board features to us enthusiasts? Absolutely. I have wanted a dual socket board that could overclock for quite some time.

I know all about the target markets, I am just interested in what the musings of an ROG server board would entail in theory. This of course by extension includes adding server board features to a consumer/enthusiast product in a way.
That said, if you ignore target markets entirely and treat ROG as a philosophy rather than a brand, I am interested in what a server board would look like if designed using said philosophy. I think that more clearly articulates what I mean.
Just because ROG features aren't marketable on an enterprise product, that doesn't make the concept any less awesome in my eyes. :)

ClayD, Of course it was a joke, we knew that.
Asus has the best Model Rep I have ever seen.
Who or What could go better in that image?
Of course she Games, and you wont believe her OverClock.
One look should (and does, which is the marketing point) tell you that.

Dont forget the Flash Red Thing.

I am not sure what it would look like either. Step one: invent a market for the product.
I am going to have to grab some scotch and sit in the wing-back chair for a few hours on this one.

When the next generation of consoles are delivered and a new generation who can film full HD on their phones and take care of 90 percent of their needs with their portable devices.
ROG could still easily stand for Rebublic of Graphic artists. As long as an animation with full global illumination beauty renders require multiple processors and multiple days. You have a market that is not going anywhere.
Most Cg types that build their own used dual socket motherboards long before the dual cores appeared.
( I myself never built a box without at least two sockets before the dual cores appeared )
When gamers ridicule the need for anything over 4 cores a rendering fool is never sated. as many threads as possible pleeeeeze.
I think what is needed for my corner of the world is for reviews to ditch cinebench for a kick ass maya animation render that takes a month to complete.
Then let the benchmark shootouts tell me that 6 cores is overblown.
Afterall when the gamers are on their next gen 2.0 consoles and iphone 5... server types and cg production types will be the only ones left reading the reviews.
