Dear Team,

I have the following configurion:

Motherboard:Aus Rampage III extreme
Processor: Intel Core i7-940
Memory: Kingston KHX1800C9D3T1K3/6GX
6GB (2GB 256M x 64-Bit x 3 pcs.) DDR3-1800MHz
@ 9-9-9-27 at 1.65V
Cpu Cooler: Thermaltake frio

In my motherboard i had set the AI Overclock tuner to XMP mode since i have the above ram classified as XMP memory. Afte this i saw that my ram settings are changed to 1800 MHz and processor clock reached to 3000GHZ with the following settings applied automatically.
So basically bclk:150
CPU ration setting:20
Therefore 150x20 is giving me 3.05GHz.

Now i want to take my processor further to 4GHZ but afraid that my Memory modules will become damage if i overclock my processor further. I need the experts guidance and require support from the Team. Please tell me that will my memory die if i try to achieve 4GHz.

your best bet is to revert back to factory settings then oc the cpu first to 4.0ghz( make sure it is stable ) and then dial in memory manually. but your probably not gonna get the exact XMP settings on the ram because when u oc bclk it changes everything. i would settle for anything over 1600mhz on the ram but you might get it to 1800mhz not sure.

If you want it to automatic OC, try using Asus' TurboV EVO tweaking tool.

Elsewise,if you want to overclock it manually. I suggest read a lot about i7 overclocking since it is a bit difference than traditional FSB overclocking. There a quick tip I gave out before:

For i7 overclocking on locked CPUs such as the 930, we mainly focus increasing the BLCK (in the old days it's the FSB).
But there are a few multipliers that run off the BCLK, which includes the Mem, Uncore (VTT) and QPI multipliers.
so once you increase the stock BCLK. All those clock speeds will be affected.
Generally, I keep QPI multi. at 36X, Uncore 16X and Mem at 8X. Most CPUs except EE ones need to have Uncore speed double of the mem. ones. (reason for the 16X & 8X)
Once you hit the BLCK of 200. You will get 1600mhz for the mem. (200mhz X 8).
Finally, There's the CPU mult. if you run 21X. You will get 4200mhz.

Thanks ottoyu34 for your tips and guidance.

I would have to agree with PC on this. Before you clock your memory you always want to make sure you get your CPU to a stable desired GHz then go for your memory. So start off fresh and clean, then try turning your memory to the lowest speeds as possible since raising your blck will raise everything else. So target your CPU first, then go for RAM. Also like he said, anything above 1600 I would aim for first. Nothing wrong with a stable 1600mhz :D and remember, small steps at a time!
