Okay, so my apologies for making an account just to ask this and all of that, but I'd like to figure this situation out.
I have ordered the M4A79T Deluxe off of Newegg (here) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131363). I have read great reviews on the board and I am sure that it is going to be great.
There's only one problem; I also ordered the Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition to use as my CPU on the board. I have read numerous reviews on Newegg for the board and one thing that sticks out to me is that a lot of people have complained that the board will not support their 6-core CPU without a BIOS update. This is because the board did not ship with the newest BIOS -- presumably because Newegg keeps a bulk of the product and just sells them as they can. Now, I don't want to have this problem with the board being able to read my CPU, but I'm afraid that when I do get the board I will be unable to turn my computer on to update the BIOS.
I do not have a spare CPU to use to boot the computer up to update the BIOS, so I can't use that method. Assuming the worst case scenario, I'll have to find a way to have ASUS send me a BIOS chip to use. The thing is, this board is going to be a Christmas gift and so I do not want to have to send out for a chip on Christmas, as I was hoping to be able to build my computer before my Christmas break was over.
Which brings me to my question: Is there any way I can have ASUS send me a BIOS chip for me to use? How do I go about getting one? I don't know if I will have to provide serial numbers and all of that for the board to get one, but I'm hoping I don't so I can send for one before opening the board. I think it is pretty safe to assume that I will not receive a board with a newer BIOS that can support my CPU because almost every single review on Newegg for the board that mentions the 6-core claims that the BIOS was not updated.
Hopefully this is the right place to ask for this. If not, I apologize. I'd just like to try to get this sorted out so that my first computer build can go smoothly.
Thank you.
