I don't know if I'm in the right spot but here it is. I bought the above board, installed my 8gb ddr2 800 basic ram,my q6600,disabled all the power saving stuff, etc. Tried to oc by 10% via bios, works for an hour or 2 then freezes, temps are fine. Tried the windows utility, same thing. tried manually OC'ing by just unlinking the ram so it stays at 800 & put the fsb at 1333 for 3ghz, fails to post message. So i reset to stock & tried increasing the core voltage to what spec says on intels site, board seems to run it at less. Tried setting the memory to spec, wants to run 6-6-6-34 instead of 18,set ram voltage to 1.85(only choice, mine is 1.8 by spec),left nb & sb at stock voltage. What am I doing wrong? Aside from ever trying the utility. All I want is 3.0ghz,this cpu can go way higher, but I need stability not numbers. I built a unit for a customer with a lesser asus board,P45g41-m, E5300, & set it to 3.1 with regular ddr2 800(4gb), & the thing's still running for a year without a burp. Why is this being so difficult? I can even decrease my multiplier if needed. I've read some posts online that say to de-clock the ram to 667 or 533 to achieve the 3ghz level. I have the "good" q6600 G0 chip. If someone could smack me upside the head & tell me what to set to what I'd be very greatfull! All ram is kingston except one supertalent but they have the same spec, 1.8v,6-6-6-18 @ 400,all 2gb modules. Bios is the latest. No heat issues at all,700w antec psu,win 7 x64 os. OS dosen't really matter as it won't get there over a 10% oc. I think the way the oc works is it increases ram & pcie speed with the cpu, which I've found increasing the pcie is not a good thing. One last issue is the disc performance in raid0 has dropped from my last board(Dell xps 410 intel raid),348mb/sec,Dell was 450mb/sec. Same drives,2 500gb segate 16mb cache sata 2's. Now I'm running all auto,no power saving crap in bios or windows, 2.4ghz steady,no throttling. Sure it's faster than Dell(no pun, lol), but I really wanted to see 3.0ghz out of this. I even tried different ratios,5:3,1:1,etc. The video card is an xfx radeon hd 5750 @ 800/1350 full fan, catalyst 10.11. I mean at 10% & a freeze,i might be inclined to think it's that one supertalent stick, but I kinda doubt it.

P5N-D have the bad habbit to get damn hot on the South bridge and the like 3 VRM they have, direct fan over these and see if it can help. Also, remove 2 stick of ram, this will help for stability. But well, P5N-D have never been a good overclocker.

I've read some posts about that bad oc stuff. But to go to 3 ghz, should be a non-issue with my cpu. Should i return the board?

what? you have buy a 3 years old board like in the past 30 day? Yes return it XD these board are epic crap XD Get something with P45 if you can find some. Also look for a board that have decent coolingon the VRM and north bridge.
