View Full Version : Rampage III Extreme doesn't agree with what it's manual says about 8-pin EATX 12V

Hi,

According to the Rampage III Extreme manual (page 2-46) there should be 2 8-pin EATX 12V connectors on the motherboard (labeled as "A" on page 2-46). However on the actual motherboards 4 of the 8 pins on each of the two connectors are capped.

So I plugged two 4-pin plugs from my PSU into the motherboard instead.

Is this OK?

Best Regards,
Zareh

Just remove the plastic cap and plug a single 8 pin. It's useless to plus 1 4 pin in one and another 4 pin in the other. Plug the 8 pin in the one that is the closest to the side of the mobo and don't worry about the second one unless you want to OC like a crazy with LN2 :P

That's what I understand from you. Maybe I am wrong, can you post a pic of your actual installation?

agreed with martin, just take off the caps.

If your power supply only has one 8pin EPS power. plug it into the other one (top/right). If it has 8pin EPS and sometimes we call it 4+4pin ATX power. You can
also plug that into the 2nd one, which had a cap on it.

Thank you. Perhaps that's the reason I couldn't start my system and get to POST. The CPU LED on the motherboard would light up and I thought I had a dead CPU. But perhaps what was happening was that the CPU wasn't getting enough power.

sorry to bump this topic. But i ordered an Rampage III Extreme 1 week ago, but i have some questions. At this moment i have an Enermax Infiniti 720watt psu with 2 x 4pins cpu connectors. It doesnt have an 8pin cpu connector. Can i still run this mainboard with my Enermax Infiniti 720w?

Do i have to put both 2x 4 pins in 1 8pin socket and leave the other one free? Or do i need an new PSU?

Most likely your PSU has 2x4 so that it works with 4pin or 8pin. You just use them both together when it's 8pin. The motherboard would work with only 4pin anyway but couldn't be overclocked as high.

Ah, the way i stated in my previous message? Putting 2x 4pins in the 8pin cpu connector on the R3E. The other one i can leave free? I am not doing extreme overclocking yet. Want to get it first stable before OCing it.

Yep, combine the 2 4pins (they often have a special shape so they fit together one way).

Not trying to hijack but manual does'nt agree on the vcore setting to dynamic either...
