Yeah, I had been keeping an eye on the Egg all day yesterday and I pulled the trigger as soon as I saw them. I wanted to make sure I secured any early set of the reference design cards so I could make sure the new Koolance 7970 waterblocks will fit.

I posted up here as soon as I saw them too in order to give my ROG brothers the heads up! Hopefully they come back into stock soon.

You have no idea how much I hate you right now DangerClose - 3 you are running 3 and I can not even find one.

There are a few other choice words I would like to add at this point but suspect the admin would strip my status and ban my ass if I did. :D

Enjoy them mate and post up some place how they work with the Crosshair V board re throttling or anything like that happening yeah. And link back here so I can check it out please.

I noticed over at HardOCP folks talking about the launch time for the card. Eastern Pacific time launch were bandied around. So I thought to myself I bet they mean Thailand time and sure enough.

They were all sold out 5 minutes after I ordered.
Got it on Wednesday.

Wow what a card………….

120Hz on DVI-D in 3d on my Samsung S27A950d monitor.

These cards are SWEET. Best thing AMD (ATI) has released in many generations. Although some folks are having some driver issues, mine seem to be running fine in crossfire. They run quite cool. I've overclocked them as far as AMD Overdrive will allow and they totally stable. Now I'm working on upping things more the Asus GPU Tweak. Man these things are beastly fast!

mdzcpa, What is your max temps on that upper card?

My one and only gets to ~84c* on 10min furmark and i have added one 120mm below for adding airflow but it just slows a little, how fast it heats up.

I have plan to buy an waterblock with backplate support as soon as they come to Finland. seems like im stock/undervolting before that.

But this card is still beter to me, then my old 5970 quadfire as my games didnt take benefit from it at all..

I have my cards cooled by Koolance water blocks along with the CPU and Mobo. My upper card will max out around 44c. Unfortunately I did not record temps with the stock cooler. The Koolance blocks do not offer back plate, but they still do a great job. I prefer the look of the back plated cards, but I can live with current results :)

Here's the system:

Forgive what appears to be a horrible plumbing job. It actually works much better than it looks :)

nice system you have :)
i think i go with EK and theyr bp. as they are cheap here and ~40€ extra for block is a lot if you ask me, but will see.

The EK's are nice blocks. You can't go wrong there. The 7970s run very cool with water blocks and allow for the voltage tweak and some insane clocks. Keep us posted!

What happens if it leaks? Is the Koolance water block compatible with the Sapphire 7970?

If the Saphire 7970 is a "reference" design card, then the Koolance block will fit. Right now the Koolance vid blocks fit only the reference designs. They may release a custom block later for non-reference designs.

As for leaks, frankly they are too rare in my experience to worry about if you take the right precautions. Always test your water loop by powering the pump for a few hours before you actually power on the system. Double check all your fittings. Re-snug your fittings after a few days of use. Blocks themselves rarely leak, and if they do not leak during your test run, they likely will not in the future unless you tamper with them.
