As has been mentioned many times, if the software you want to use has you use the Num Lock key (WoW does, and someone else said Rift does), then you don't want the G74. The G74 does not have a Num...
Be careful that the games you want to run don't need Num Lock. The G74 series doesn't have a Num Lock key. (For example, WoW uses Num Lock as the default Run button).
You are probably better off...
I don't know if SWTOR needs the num lock key, but the G74 doesn't have it.
You need to return the machine to the seller and buy a different machine.
Just make sure none of the games you want to play need the Num Lock key. The G74 series does not have a Num Lock key, at all, period. ASUS technical support will tell you to remap (whatever)...
I'm used to hitting Num Lock in WoW as the toggle to run / stop. ASUS technical support told me to make WoW bind that function to a different key. Of course, the key next to it is the toggle...
I did flash to the latest BIOS - still no Num Lock key.
They did fix it so you can do a combination of keys to turn Num Lock on. But you have to run some software if you want to later turn it off.
Yes.
If you want to look for yourself, you can usually find at least one in a Best Buy. Where the Num Lock key should be, they've silkscreened a little picture of a Calculator. Hitting it dumps...
Looks like it. Except that this picture looks a little more grey than what I got, the specs and price are about identical.
But it was $1,200 blown in my opinion, because the game I want to play...
I think that if ASUS was going to fix this problem, they would have done it months ago.
I have huge buyer's remorse due to this design defect. I'd return mine if I could.
Note that the G74 does not have a Num Lock key. If you run games (or other software) that need it, this is probably a deal breaker.
Although I hope you are right, I've given up hope.
If ASUS wanted to fix this problem, they would have done so by now.
It's not like they've never written a BIOS before.
Welcome to the chump club. ASUS played us for chumps with this. And now they've played you for a chump too.
Everything I've seen from ASUS on this so far indicates they don't care.

And... it needs to have a Numlock key. Not a Windows Calculator key.
I certainly would return my G74 if I could - I have huge buyer's remorse because of the Numlock key issue.
ASUS could make it better with a BIOS update; but at this point they clearly don't care. ...
