I just wanted to follow up on this thread for those interested.
On the first issue with the blu-ray drive, the issue was resolved after I did a clean installation with an ISO image of Win 7 Home...
Check the power management settings, its done in there.

I'm not sure if anyone else has a lead, but I'm having trouble even finding a place to get a loose GPU from in the first place. If I could find someone to sell it to me, I'd love to try slapping a...
I haven't tried checking the dump file yet, so I'll do that tonight. I'll do the same with event viewer.
I'm hoping this isn't a physical problem with the drive, but I suppose it very well could...
The point though is that while you might be able to get the chip installed (assuming you can even get a loose chip in the first place), there is no way to guarantee compatibility or functionality...
This problem occurred with the default player, which is what prompted me to install and test with new player software.
So I've yet to upgrade the firmware on my SSD, because per OCZ, you can't upgrade the firmware via their utility on a primary drive. Once I'm able to do this using another PC, I'll report back...
Oops... Just saw a pic of the naked G74 mobo in another thread and it looks as though the G74 doesn't use an MXM slot. So basically, even if you could find a loose GPU chip for sale on the secondary...
Does anyone know for sure if the G74S machines use a true Nvidia MXM port for the video card?
This site/page is a great starting point for information on this:...
Uninstalled the drivers, rebooted, then Windows reinstalled it. Same BD-ROM behavior... :(
It can't be an issue with a dirty optical drive, because it reads other discs immediately after I insert a blu-ray disc. I'm convinced that this is some sort of software setting or conflict, but I...
Thanks for the suggestion, xeromist. I'll check OCZ's site for a firmware update tonight.
So I'm hoping someone in the community here has some ideas about what might be occurring with two seperate (and very annoying) issues I'm having with my G74SX-ST1:
1) My blu-ray drive will NOT...
From what I'm reading, it's not easy to get the GPU chips to do something like this. That is assuming you obtain one that is compatible with your motherboard, BIOS, etc.
This might help: http://btoforums.com/showthread.php?t=2735
I've noticed a very similar thing happening once I installed an OCZ 120GB SSD to replace the drive that shipped in my G74SX as the OS drive. Like you, I've noticed that it only seems to happen if I...
I have to chime in and echo what BrodyBoy said. The G74 is not very portable, and is more of a desktop replacement. This is the primary reason I bought my G74, because I'm trading in my 'office' for...
NVIDIA Inspector has the GPU core clock locked for me. Something I'm missing here?
Jassper is right, you'll have no problem getting the G73 into this backpack.
Installing PowerDVD resolved all of my blu-ray issues. I still need to verify if an issue exists with reading non-bluray media though.
I bought this backpack at my local CompUSA for my G74SX. I'm here to tell you, this thing can smuggle small countries in it.
At one point, I had 3 laptops (including the G74 and two smaller...
I agree. I think the 2670QM has a lot to do with any performance jump, and I'd definitely like to read more about users that have OC'd their 560Ms.
Yes, I bought the $78 edition because I wanted the 'mobile' features.
What I've read recently basically confirms what you've said: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5064/nvidia-geforce-gtx-580m-receives-major-price-cut
In hindsight, it was probably more than I needed to pay for what you get. But for me, I had to buy something anyway if I wanted to get BD-ROM movies working on my laptop, so I went ahead and just...
