Hivizman means VCCSA yes. What he is suggesting is that you should not need more than 1.15v on VCCSA to get your system stable with the DIMMS current XMP speed, At a guess this will be 1600mhz??? While your at it I would try VTT at 1.15v also and The RAM voltage at 1.575v. This should stabalise your system.

Have you got both EZ plugs in the board as these give the dimms more power when using 8 sticks.

Yes, XMP on the Corsair Vengeance means 1600MHz. I will try those settings. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

I have only the 4-pin one attached as the manual says that's the one providing power to DIMMs. I didn't bother with the 6-pin one since that's for additional power for four PCIe3.0 display cards, again according to the manual.

Hmm. Is it normal (heh) that the PC freezes/crashes while in the BIOS settings screen? That's happened to me twice now.

OK, this is not good. I tested with following settings:

    Optimized Defaults +
    XMP & Mode 1
    CPU VCCSA 1.100
    DRAM Voltages 1.575
    VTTDDR Voltages AUTO
    VTT CPU Voltage AUTO (~1.26)
2nd VTT CPU Voltage AUTO (~1.050)

Booted to Windows, started my usual x264 encoding test... and in less than 1 minute the PC rebooted without warning. No BSOD, no error messages, nothing.

    That is odd.

Can you do something for me.

Use two sticks in dual channel and see if the system is stable. If yes at two more sticks and run stability test. Your encoding thing. Again if passes then add two more.

Use the settings that 8ball has suggested when you do this little test.

As to having freezes in BIOS well yes. But that was at -170'c so not quite the same situation.

I was dreading this suggestion would come up. Cooler fans wouldn't allow the removal of the closest two sticks so I had to yank the fans. It's also why I had to buy low profile DIMMs, so they'd fit under the fans.

Anyhoo, the rig is now up and running on two sticks. I'll update this post when something happens.
