Thread: Safe 24/7 GPU/CPU run temps

    Safe 24/7 GPU/CPU run temps

Ok so i enjoy F@H and Bit Mining with my new rig, but have stopped due to worry. I don't feel comfortable running my GPU's specifically for days or weeks on end on air. I was wondering if someone on here has been folding or mining with their rigs over the past few years on nothing but air. If so:

    1. Have you had hardware issues related to temps?

    2. What are "safe" temps for GPU's and CPU's to run at 24/7? Thanks in advance for all the tips and advice.

    3. With the below info, am i safe to fold/bit mine 24/7?

    My current temps for GPU/CPU @ 100%

    GPU's: 80-83c
    CPU: 47-50c (i think)

My friend would you mind if I moved this thread to the folding section. The lads there will have the information that you want to know about. Not sure if Grandpa and the lads read the over-clocking section each day.

I to am not 100% sure either. But folding is such a particular practice that I think that the guys here would be the best ones to answer your questions.

Well, I *have* had temperature problems but that was because I had an accident. I had 4 computers folding CPU & GPU closed up in a 10x10 room and an air conditioner blowing hot exhaust into the room. I've no idea how hot it was but the *ambient* was probably 40C when the first PC died. By the time I found the situation my wooden desk was very warm to the touch. Surprisingly such a catastrophic event only caused 1 hard drive to die and an old video card to artifact.

Under normal conditions everything has been great. I'd say your GPU's are a little on the warm side but within operating tolerance. I'd be worried if they were getting into the 90's.

Yea thats what i thought.....and its a great way to try to "break" the GPU's inside the warranty period

Oh and BTW for those of you that were or are curious about bit mining, with my 7970's at stock i mine at about 1300Mhs. My total PC wattage is 665w (100% CPU/GPU usage) which is about $35.00 a month ($.08 per Kwh). So with the total hash dificulity i will make between $100-$110 a month minning with just my 2 GPU's

    Just an FYI....

As xeromist says you temps are fine your CPU is running very cool and you do have some room there to push it further if you want to.

I guess it's all personal preference but I like to see my temps below 60 degrees across the board. This oftentimes causes the fan on my GPU to sound like a leaf blower but I use EVGA Precision to adjust the fan speed based on temps.

Right now I am running at 52 degrees on my GPU and averaging about 50 on my CPU.

Either way, I have no doubt that my neighbors are experiencing power problems

EDIT: I kicked up the core speed a bit on the GPU to see how the temp would be at 928mhz... only increased the temp to about 57 degrees. I am only running on air. Would love to see what this card could do on water!

thanks for the posts guys! so here is what i got from the info on my system this a.m. before leaving to work. all info is at 100% load for 8hrs.

GPU's: 1100/5850 clock, 87c temp, 55percent fans (auto)....lol poor wife has to listen to them all day while im at work...lol
CPU: 62c @ 4.3GHz/1.34v (new BIOS last night no time to tweak)

Internal Case temp: 28.5c ambient 23.8c (should have gone down to 24.8c by now with no load currently on CPU. This should bring the GPU temps down to about 85c)

I can't wait to WC those GPU's! I might sell the XFX and get the ASUS Direct CU II's....plenty of room on the board for 2 of them filling 3 slots...or i may just wait to see how the XFX run while WC'n
