Hello.

Somehow i accidentally defraged my primary SSD today and i noticed on sound that everything started breaking regularly 1-2x in 5 minutes just for sec or two... 😞 It breaks in games and also when playing music and movies... 😞 Was I damaged disk? What should i do i formated just 6 days ago...should i format again?

My laptop is G74SX and SSD is Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 120GB Fw:3.3.2

Please help! :S

Technically windows should know you have a SSD drive installed simply by it's firmware and refuse you any attempts made by the user to defrag the drive... The dialogue box does show but clicking on it should reveal no actual response.

Windows didn't try to refuse, even didn't notify me that this is ssd... I installed windows normally like on every other non SSD HDD with ntfs ... But program PerfectDisk detects ssd corectly... Everything else is working normaly except that concerned freezing...it freezes constantly... My games are installed on second HDD which is normal magnetic...and are also freezing...

OH well... Guess some learn the hard way, least you know not to do in the future! TBH I don't think there's a simple way to undo it. Guess you have two options: live with it or reinstall.

I agree here, there should not be an instance when you are allowed to defragment your hard drive and I am guessing that it is caused by another problem/error on the hardware's side. You might want to start a migration or backup just to be sure that you get hold of your files when you ultimately have to proceed with a formatting for it. But it should not have been defraged to begin with.

Diskeeper 2011 is a really good program to defrag SSD and to prevent fragments from happening. I used it with my 2 SSD Raid 0, keeps the raid performing up to par.

There is absolutely no need to defrag an ssd, ever. It is about the single worst thing you can do for performance on the drives.

Can you explain why defragging would be bad for performance, specifically on an SSD?

basically there are no spinning platters on a ssd drive so there is no speed advantage to defragging and in fact it would slow down the performance of a ssd drive.

That exactly what I thought too, from reading all the crap on the forums. But once I tried Diskeeper for a few weeks, that's when realized, they where all sooooooooooooo wrong.
