How to disassemble G74Sx and reduce speaker vibrations (Photos)

thanks to this guy, HENDRICKSON at notebookreview.com here who post this out

An easy notebook to open up for someone with experience. (But only do this if you have experiance like I do. I have opened and repasted about 12 notebooks before)

Not recommend for people that have never opened up a notebook and dealt with flex cables and their fiddly connectors. I dont recommend opening your G74 if your not 110% confident. I'm not responsible for any damages you may cause. You open your notebook, its your risk in voiding your warranty or killing your machine.

Steps: Remove the battery, remove the optical drive and remove all 26 screws underneath on the underside. Dont forget under the Blu ray/ DVD drive. Tehre are 2 small ones there. Flip it over remove the screen bracket plastic and then remove the screen. There are two long screws per screen brace.

The whole top comes off. Just pull the middle top up and then unclip the edges from top to bottom. I can easily change the CPU or repaste if needed. Not too hard. Hell my G53sx and Acer 3820TG was much harder than this.

My fan noise issue. Asus assembly line guys really messed up. Big time. They left a huge piece of plastic in side on top of my left cooling fan. Never seen such a big slip up before. Not cool at all!

What a disaster leaving that in there! Explains my fan noise.

Many of the internal screws where loose too. Not torked up as they should be.

I've fixed my issue and reduced speaker vibrations from the left side. Not much can be done with the right side.

Design flaw: The left speaker vibrates so much because its basically plastic on top of plastic. Which will vibrate. Asus placed no pad between the two plastics. I used a few strips of insulation take to fix the vibrations. I can honestly say that I have removed most of the problem. I can now listen to sound abouve 50% and it only vibrates with alot of bass at max volume. Now thats much better than vibrating liek hell at 50% volume.

Sorry I didn't have time to do a full disassemble guide with photos. Maybe if I add a 2720qm I will do a full guide. Also if the laptop gets hot I know what I have to do to remove the dust.

This is what my fan sound like before I opened my G74 up to see what the issue was. New Asus g74 fan noise - YouTube

This is quite. Before I removed the plastic. It was about 4 times louder than the video.

Last week, I promised a couple others that I'd write up an illustrated disassembly guide. I keep getting caught up in other things, so only working on it in fits and starts.....but I'll get there! I'll be sure to post as soon as I'm done. (Should be this week sometime.)

Brody does good work. The kind of tech support you can't find anywhere else. I agree it's worth the wait.

That one's been around for quite awhile, but it's not an ideal choice for many applications, since it includes extra steps you would need for complete breakdown. Most of the routine tasks people want to do.....checking cables, grounding the touchpad, cleaning the fans, tightening speaker screws, etc.....require top cover removal, not complete breakdown. There are quite a few steps you can skip from that guide, making the disassembling much quicker and easier when performing these common tasks.

Forgive me, but this thread is a sticky?..

Nothing against the OP. I'm also grateful for DEFTSTAR sharing the other guy's steps
on a G74 disassembly from NBR. But it's NOT really a step-by-step disassembly guide.
Things could go wrong easily without a proper guide (esp. for a newbie).
Dealing with software issues is one thing (It's easier.), dealing with hardware is an entirely another thing.

Brody hasn't posted his G74 disassembly guide yet. I wouldn't mind if you say I'm partial about it.
But I strongly suggest we wait for his guide first, then decide what to sticky on..

Just my "er jiao" (Chinese 10 cents).

i've seen that site before. i agree with pilgrim, for someone hasn't had an experience would be though for them. would be nice for brody to be adding a step by step to disassemble a g74. the one from the site is just a basic, there is more to it.

but i only have question about this, would it be warranty void?

No...so long as you don't damage anything. Presumably, user-modifications could void the warranty, but top cover removal, which is the level of disassembly needed for most common "inside" tasks, would not in itself void the warranty if you reassembly everything as it was. (There are no warranty stickers until you pull the motherboard and turn it over. That's where you find warranty stickers on the heatsink screws.)

Sorry I'm taking awhile on this....it's coming right in the middle of helping a couple people with issues and clean installs (on another model), and re-buidling my own home server. And, y'know...living a life, too!

But I am working on it. I just want to make it clear, and easy, and thorough, so that even "newbies" can confidently do things like check keyboard cables, etc., before having to RMA for these simple issues.
