I have also noticed that Vcore has to be higher if running higher memory speeds well on my chips that is true. Not just higher VCCSA and VTT but higher Vcore too. From DDR 2133 to DDR 2400 I need 0.015v extra and another 0.005+ extra for DDR 2500+ to achieve stability and maintain tight timings this is at 5.0 - 5.125ghz. With the IMC being on the chip this makes sense. SO many variables are effecting Vcore needed with sandy- E. I would not worry so long as your system is stable and does what you need while maintaining resonable temps your fine.

Last night I did a reset to default and instead of using XMP I went to manual this time. Entering all the setting manually this time for my memory. Now from 38 to 45, my vcore range from 1.28v to 1.365v. This is 0.04 lower then before. The jump to 46 is harsh, 1.42 but still lower then with the XMP profile. Monitoring the voltage show a maximum usage of 1.434v running prime. I didn't test extensively but I could go up to 48 easy under 1.49v with good temp too. So manual over XMP did help in my case to get lower voltage at 46 and a 5c temp drop too. What I dont want is to burn my CPU in a few month because of over-volting. If everyone think its fine to run at 46 with 1.42v then I'll do that or else I can just scale back to 45.

If anyone else have idea to go even lower on vcore, let me know. I will try going to 1600mhz on memory instead of the stock 1866. I'm a bit disappointing by my CPU and even more when you consider the money spent on this build. At least its totaly silent even when running prime for hours

Honestly I would be happy with that OC. I run my CPU at 4.3GHz and that's actually more than I need. If I were encoding maybe I'd push a bit to save time, BUT if you have a near silent system, consider it a job well done, cos noisy systems are undesirable in my view.

I went through 3 CPUs before I stumbled on my current 3960X that does 5Ghz at decent voltages. The other 2 needed 1.5v+ tp get to 5Ghz...no thanks. I agree with Raja on this point and have found myself running my semi-golden CPU 5Ghz clock down to 4.8ghz just so I can drop the voltage drastically and run nearly silent fan speeds.

Totally agree that I don't need it BUT its quite fun to try pushing that CPU as far as possible and learning my way around the bios. See 4.5ghz is good for me, most of my overclock goes to my GPU anyway since I don't do anything CPU intensive. I rarely encode stuff and anyway use CUDA enabled software when I do. The other thing I use it for is GPU based rendering and gaming.

So yeah I'm hitting a big wall at 46 and you cant blame me for trying to take it down! This is what its all about! Giving up and stopping there doesn't sound fun.

    I know what you mean.
It's a shame that the next step means getting a different CPU (and additionally parting ways with more money in the wallet.)
    All in good fun!

Maybe if you talk nicely to the CPU.... JK...

I provide motivation to all my CPU's that are resistant to over clocking. And talking to them is part of that process. The trick is having the correct motivational aids that clinch the deal and insure that the reluctant CPU take what you are saying seriously.

I took dear Sandy on holiday to Aspen last year. She was placed in a silk scarf and carried in my top pocket through the entire trip. Skedaddling the slopes, enjoying a single malt in the log cabins or during intimate liaisons with the fairer sex in front of the fire, dear Sandy was there.

Does the set of all those sets that do not contain themselves contain itself?
