It is not a faulty any thing but the mother board. The 4 pin connector right next to it should be powering the cpu as well and it has no damage what so ever. I would think it would have burned both the 8 pin and the 4 pin if it where a case of over current. I really think it was a bad solder joint. The psu is brand new. The cables are brand new. There is nothing older than 2 weeks in this computer. So please stop with the rust or bad psu excuses.

In the email i received from asus it states.
Physical damage is not covered under your ASUS manufacturer’s warranty and automatically VOIDS your warranty. ASUS reserves the right to reject any product received with physical damage.

    - Damage can include any shape or form of corner / edge damage / markings with pens and/or markers

    - Broken traces or burns due to improper installation / removal of other components

    - Broken CPU socket or bent pins

So from this statement in the email from asus I should be covered since every thing was installed properly. Every thing was plugged in to the proper connections. The board is suppose to perform its intended function. If I can not over clock this board with out burning the 8 pin off, it is clearly not fit for its intended purpose and I should be allowed to receive an rma the board.

I sympathize, but I can see why there is plenty playing against you.

You post history shows how hard you were pushing the board. Having to ask certain questions always creates an air of doubt about how much one really knows. Your initial post in this thread left out some important information that you have only presented when folks have suggested what could have gone wrong. Usually, when a user knows what they are doing their opening post when filing a claim like this is a lot more complete. The two glaring things you left out were the cooling and mentioning the 4 pin connector now.

I am sitting on the fence but I can see how it looks like due diligence was not performed. Hope you get an RMA wherever the fault lies, and whatever the truth might be you WILL learn a lesson from it.

Overclocking is always a grey area when it comes to warranties, like everything extreme a certain level of responsibility falls upon us the end-user, too. That being: Just because you can, does not mean you should.

    Good Luck!!

Does the set of all those sets that do not contain themselves contain itself?

The 4 pin was not in question nor was the cooling until Raja@ASUS replied in pm that I did not have the 4 pin connected. This how ever was not the case. The 4 pin as well as the 8 pin where connecter along with the pcie 6 pin to the motherboard. I know this picture is not the best but you can make out the 8 pin cables and the 4 pin cables being connected to the board. i do not have the fans on the vrm in the picture but during overclocking they are present.

The damage to your board is quite intense. And while I completely sympathise with your situation I can tell you from personal experience getting a RMA through is going to take some doing. That kind of catastrofic damange will not happen running stock. And I hardly ever run stock so I think I know what I am talking about.

In fact the only way I can imagine that RMA happening is if you had intervention from a ASUS technical person. So my advice is if you have been speaking via pm to someone who is part of the ASUS structure; send them your serial number of your motherboard and the RMA number.

If you are not sure what I am talking about pm me.

It is under way. They are granting me an advanced rma. They are in the process of checking stock. If they have one in stock I will be notified and then provide necessary cc info and the board should be on the way.

Sweet! Good luck mcj. I don't think anyone should be blamed for a fire when they made no physical modifications.

You are absolutely right. Imagine if this happened and I wasn't home or any where near the computer. My house could have burned down. In my opinion this was a very close call. I will continue to buy from asus as long as their customer support can live up to what their hardware claims. Up until now I have had a very good experience with asus and hope this is a speed bump and not a road block.

loose connection, rust on the connectors, you have bad contact, you have smaller surface area to transfer high amount of current. resistance and heat becomes a vicious cycle, hotter , higher resistance = hotter = higher resistance, finally that.
That was my first thought. The fact that it happened at the connector is a dead give away.

Do you think that looks like a bad or loose connection? Are you blind? You can see it is fully seated in the connector even tho it is burned off the board. Stop trying to blame every thing but the board. All Items sold today must be 'fit for purpose' ,if they sell with the intention of overclocking then those features must work as intended.
