Need help on 7970 DC2T please

Hello, this is my first in this ROG forum

    My system spec:
    i7 2600k
    Ram G.Skill 8GB dual channel
    ASUS 7970 DC2T
    Mainboard P8Z68 V - Pro
    Power Corsair AX 850watts

    Windows 7 64 bit

I bought 7970 DC2T today so I start to overclock it. Default speed is core 1000mhz @vcore 1.050v and memory 1400 mhz

    Here my problems:
Its run very perfectly at default speed but when I try to OC to 1050, I get artificial while running MSI Kombuster and crashes. I use MSI afterburner to OC it by move Core speed from 1000 to 1050 to see how its perform. Well, its just 50 mhz and its can't go any higher?

I try to raise more Vcore but I still can't get it stable at 1050 or 1100... its get artificial and crashes I even raise Vcore to 1.3v. Still no go.

I try to raise up powertune to 20% but something strange happens, my screen get flickering at default speed while testing

I try to re-install many driver but still crashes, its will run good only at default speed... :/ its strange!!! how come I can't overclock my 7970 DC2T??? I even try ASUS GPU Tweak...

I get the bad chip? :/

What should I do? if I decide to re-install Windows, its will fix it?

    Thanks in advance!

I do not have any experience at overclocking, nor using the HD7970 DC2T card. However, I am aware of the article below that indicates there may be an issue with the cooler and might be of interest:

    Ok

After 99 views and 2 days

Still no one can give me any real information? even ASUS staff or relate? oh man ... this is terrible.

    @DougOtt

Yeah, I read article too, at first glance, I don't think its will affect 7970 DC2T because its different design (hopefully) but seems like its not...

    ASUS FAIL THIS TIME

Even their top product like 7970 DirectCU II TOP has flaw... I can't believe this ****. I found the problems, its VRM TEMPERATURE is too damn hot. Its raise up to 100+ C while play the game (not stress test) and apparently not only me that have this problems, there thread in [H] Forum about 7970 DC2T. They says 7970 DC2T has problems with VRM cooling and there many peoples RMA it.... even cancelled it.

So I immediate RMA it .... and order new one, HIS Reference card 7970 and I am happy now.

GUYS HEAR MY WORD, DON'T ORDER 7970 DC2T just yet, its FLAW PRODUCT!!!

Hi again. Sorry to hear that no one could assist you. Wish I could, but I do not have the knowledge or experience. Regarding the ASUS HD7970 DirectCU II TOP card, I am waiting to see if ASUS resolves the problems before ordering one.

You must have a bad card, I have a DC2T @ 1.25v 1225/7000 and it still can go higher. Try and RMA the card, the replacement should work fine as the bad batch has already been corrected.

For me to have commented would need me to have the card, and I do not not. I do not think we have a dedicated graphic card support person here on the ROG forum that deals with hardware specific stuff. The bulk of those questions are about things that guys like me can deal with. PCB design of non-reference graphic cards is way out of my league. That is maybe why no one could reply. It is beyond all our ken.

AFAIK, the card with factory overclocked is a little bit difficult to "push" higher. and have a little problem in some games.

I have XFX 6970 XXX Edition that factory OC'ed 900MHz, while stock is 880MHz
with that, I have issue while playing Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3. it's freeze while playing about 2 minute.
so, I try to downclock to 880MHz, than the game is run perfectly.
I can't push that card higher. I mean.. yes I can push till 925MHz, BUT.. it's not stable even with 1.3 voltages, crash when running 3Dmark 2011. and always BSOD when playing games.

and my cousin have the Asus 6970 Direct CU II. guest what??
it's definitely have same issue with me

The VRMs TEMP is ok it says in GPU tweak its around 60-100+ however it more like 30-60 (tested with thermal camera..google some pics) However changing from GPU Tweak 2.0.3.3. to 2.0.8.3 has fixed the issue and it now shows the correct VRM temp. The Issue was these cards had a new VRM which GPU tweak didnt understand hence the wrong temps showing new one does know how to use the new VRM's and will show you actuall temp hope that helps mate
heres a youtube video i posted a couple days ago showing prob the same temps as you with the same GPU tweak prob.. Will be uploading a new one tonight to show the update with 2.0.8.3.
