    G74 Horizontal lines on screen

So lately ive been seeing horizontal lines on my screen, but only on certain colours, usually black. Ive hooked up an external display and the lines dont show up on it.

Is my display broken or is there something I can do to fix this? Does anyone know what is actually going on other than just saying my display is broken? I have a 3 year warranty with staples, so if it is broken it wont be a problem getting it fixed, I will just have to wait till april to do so since I will need my computer for school until then (my old computer would have a heart attack if I tried to load up photoshop or Maya on it). I also have the infamous broked touchpad which I havent got fixed either, so if m screen does need service I guess ill just send it in and get everything fixed in april, but if I can fix the screen myself then I can live with the unuseable touchpad.

If I end up having to send it in for repairs does anyone know how long that typically takes? My staples warranty has them handling everything so they send it off to Asus which is rather convenient.

Check out this thread "http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?5536-Asus-G74-screen-flicker-%28dark-backgrounds-and-low-brightness%29". Not sure if there is a fix as Chasity suggests and Chasity has completely abandoned this thread and will not reply to PM's leaving all affected users wondering why. I have contacted ASUS but at this time feel that they do not have a fix. If you have a warranty with Staples I would see if they will exchange the notebook as their is no guarantee that ASUS knows how to fix this issue.

I notice that in that thread hes saying that if its on max brightness its not visible, I usually have my display on max brightness and its still clearly visible. I also dont know that I would call what im experiencing flickering. Its just static lines on certain colours, if I mess around in Nvidia control panel with contrast/brightness/gamma I can change which colours/shades it shows up on, but I cant eliminate it.

@Mrblue I haven't been into that issue before so I cannot help you out with this one to fix it.

But I need a little more information about the issue:
    • Has this issue existed since out of the box?
    • Which graphic driver have you installed?

No, this issue wasn't happening out of the box, I only noticed this starting about a month or two ago. I have the latest 295.73 WHQL drivers installed.

Okey, have you tried to downgrade the graphics drivers to see if there is any change/difference ?

I tried going back to the 280 drivers, but no change. I do notice that if I go into Nvidia control panel and set the computer to 16 bit colour this problem disappears, but of course I dont want to go around like that.

Hmm, perhaps with info that you have comed with now can help other members here to isolate your issue.
I can not think of anything to do to fix this then =/

But does the horizontal lines occur on and external screen also?

No, it doesn't happen on an external display, which is what leads me to believe its an issue with the display itself.

    Okey,

I have one more thing you can try in my mind and that is to disable vsync in nvidia controlpanel (you find it under 3D-settings -> manage 3D-settings. Gloabal settings, scroll down and choose the vsync disable)

EDIT: If that doesn't work or do any changes at all, you can change it back to like it was before you changed it.

    fuzon out!
