Thread: How to use ASUS ROG USB BIOS Flashback

  1. #31
How do I have to name the file for Maximus IV Gene-Z/Gen3??

  2. #32
    Also curious about Adrian07ch's post.

What do you rename the file if you're using a Gene-Z/Gen3?

Also, does this utility work to downgrade to an earlier BIOS?

I'm assuming you cannot flash backward to a previous BIOS once you've installed the latest BIOS? Or am I not getting the full gist of the idea?

I do understand the operation, just the meat of the operation is what has me a little confused.

I've owned my Crosshair IV Formula pretty much since it launched and haven't had any issues regarding BIOS, but say I do. Can I revert or no?

HI, does this work to flashback Maximus Gene-Z (original NOT gen 3) and if so would I rename the file "M4GZ.rom" ?
I upgraded to the latest Bios version 3203 but due too issues I would like to go back to version 902.
If this is not possible can we have some info on when we can expect an updated version to fix the voltage, debug A0 issues from 3203. Thx!

Just to give the original poster a heads up... the instructions on renaming the ROM are wrong. If the board is a maximus IV Extreme then the file name is "M4E.ROM" and not what it is on the OP.

Thank you so much for this post though! I used a little common sense for the filename and it fixed my problem

    Hi,

    Board: Maximus IV Extreme-Z

Can anyone please confirm if this method with the ROG button and the fat32 USB stick is ONLY for a downgrade to an earlier version of the BIOS than that currently in the board (eg 1004 back to 0902)?

Or, can it be used to upgrade a BIOS to a more recent version than that currently in the board (eg 0902 up to 1002)?

There seems to be some confusion about this and it would be useful to have a definitive answer?

That guide in the link is specific for updating to 3xxx series BIOS. The BIOS versions before 3xxx are "non Ivy" and some of them are not a "two stage flash" and are only a "one stage flash".

Does anyone actually know for sure if ROG Connect with fat32 is ONLY for downgrade to earlier version or if it can be used to upgrade to newer versions.

Sure I know there are other methods to flash the BIOS but I would just like to know the scope of the ROG Connect option.
