Thread: G73/74/53 Series Driver and Application Reference

  1. #291
    Hİ,
I just bought a G73SW-1ATY. I burned the "Windows 7 Universal Installation DVD" to a DVD.. I want to make a clean format and reinstall everything but I have some questions about some parts.. If anyone can answer them I would be really happy..

In the top of the post; there is "ASUS Driver and Application Disc for G73SW".. is this disc the original one that comes with the notebook or it is a new drivers disc which includes the new updates of drivers you gave in your post?

  2. #292
Original that comes with the notebook.

I've tried combing through alot of the information on this forum, but there is alot of it.

So Recently I purchased a g73jh. Its awesome I love it, and I've been in the diag/repair side of pc's for about 7 years now which is one of the reasons why Im so depleted on energy in regards to fixing this issue.
Any who, I'm going to try and give you guys the skimmed version
    Bought brink
    Low fps
    Patched twice
    Looked at my driver
    was out of date
Went to ati to download driver
    bsod
    Went to asus
    asus driver out of date
downloaded an 11.5 hotfix of some kind somewhere
was unstable caused gsod and artifacting but brink ran smooth...when it wasnt crashing
flashed bios, still getting gsod playing everything now instead of just brink
reverted to original drivers. No artifacting and all games but brink play fine.
Any advice? Called asus, re t ar d on the phone said " Well sorry sounds like an rma issue"
What to do what to do.....

Are you (and the other poster who mentioned he's having the same problem) sure you updated your vBIOS (GPU BIOS) to the new version as well? When Asus released that vBios hotfix for the G73s with 5870s, it fixed a lot of compatibility issues for users and allowed them to upgrade to newer ATI drivers without having as many problems.

As for Brink, it's a known "issue" right now, no matter what ATI card you're running... Both ATI and the game developer have been trying to fix it since release; Brink is up to "Update 4" by now, and ATI has issued several performance optimizations since 10.4 (new driver versions and hotfixes, like the newest "11.5b Hotfix" listed in Chastity's main post.

Bottom line: Don't let Brink trick you into thinking there's something wrong with your GPU or setup... There are still reports of users patched up to the latest version of Brink and ATI drivers experiencing low frame rates (optimization), despite having the hardware to handle it. Make sure you've upgraded your vBios first (either the "stock" one from Asus, or the modded one from Chastity if you want lower clock timings while in battery mode to save even more power), then try upgrading not only your ATI drivers, but the latest Brink update as well (number 4 is the latest, I think).

There are also a bunch of ways to tweak the OpenGL graphics settings of Brink that aren't presented in the in-game menu. To play around with these (and some people report huge differences with tweaks like turning off shadows completely, disabling decals, or changing the multicore rendering mode), do a Google search for "Brink Config Tool," which is a pretty slick little app that automatically generates different .cfg files for you, or just search "Brink config tweaks" or something along those lines...

I'm of the opinion that the G73 benefits — if only a bit — from cooling pads; the new Targus HD3 Gaming Chill Mat reduces my idle GPU temp by ~5°C at max RPM, and I've read about better-quality pads performing the same or better...

I am currently using this driver for my LAN-Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet v1.0.0.29 since Atheros took down the page for the AR8131 with updated drivers.

I was wondering is Atheros AR813X/AR815X Series PCI-E Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20) v1.0.0.36 WHQL 10/22/2010 the same as the one I'm using or is it different because of the NDIS tag? I was thinking of using this one. Should I go about the usual way and uninstall the 1.0.0.29 one and just install using Device Manager?

I know the topic lately has been game performance.

I noticed a dramatic difference in the rendering of the backround which makes the game play more smooth in World of Warcraft from these two settings.

Disabling Windows 7 Core Parking , here is the link http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1861804

Making sure Triple Buffering is turned on since V-Sync is enabled.

As far as that certain game goes, using the DirectX 11 API instead of DirectX 9 makes a huge difference in the loading of characters and objects.

I'm pretty sure gamers who are seeking high performance will find that disabling Windows 7 Core Parking will notice a difference in their gameplay.

On a clean install, my process is :

    1) Install Win 7, do not enable Windows Update yet
    2) Update Intel INF drivers
    3) Install Win 7 SP1 Redist package
    4) Install Intel RST drivers
    5) Enable Windows Update & Continue on with the rest of the hardware. You can use the Driver Reference as a sort of checklist.
I have updated the Intel INF driver from the first post in this thread (Intel Chipset INF for Series 5 v9.2.0.1025 ).

    My queries are:
    1. What is this Win 7 SP1 redist package? Where do I download it from? Is it this (Windows 7 SP1 RTM for x64) from your first post in this thread? If so, the link is unavailable.

    2. I also downloaded this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028560 "An update is available for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2 which provides new functionality and performance improvements for the graphics platform") and installed it. After installing both the Intel INF and the above hotfix, I tried installing this (Intel RST SATA Drivers 10.1.0.1008) but midway between installation, it said "An error has occurred in registering one or more of your components. Setup will now exit". That was when I realised that I had already installed it and it was working fine when i tried it before. But then, after this, when i tried running it, it said "Intel rapid storage technology is trying to connect" and then stayed like that without any change. So I uninstalled it and restarted my computer and found that it hadn't got uninstalled completely. So I booted in safe mode, deleted the Intel Rapid Storage file from Program Files x86 and restarted my coputer again and tried running the iata_enu.exe file and again midway it said "An error has occurred in registering one or more of your components. Setup will now exit". SO now, I can't seem to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology. What do i do? Please help me out.

    1. Here is a link to an article where you can read what that Win 7 SP1 is about, and you'll find 3 links at the end of it (you'll want the x64 one (middle)): http://www.winrumors.com/windows-7-s...l-to-download/

2: I'm not too sure what you're saying happened, but seems to me it's as good a time as any to backup and try from scratch, and write your own documentation in a txt file on a USB drive on your approach for future reference. Best of luck

Thank you very much for replying. I did what you mentioed in your second point. I did a clean install again. It wasn't a problem as my laptop is new and I havent installed many games or softwares in it. I had messed up badly with the Intel RST and it wouldn't run or reinstall no matter what. Thank you once again for replying. I will check out the link you posted.
