asus p8z68-v lx rebooting when playing video games

    Asus p8z68-v lx
    Intel 2500k
    Kingston 2x4gb ram
    MSI twin frozer 560ti

Both the video card and power supply came from my old pc. I've run prime95, memtest, and several other benchmarks and my system runs well. However, when I go to play a video game my system will reboot after playing the game (from a few sec. to a few min depending on game). I've set bclk to 100. Even cleared cmos with no change.

    Whats your PSU ?

Is your RAM set to AUTO ?

Sounds like possibly the PSU since when playing a game ramps up power while your other tests dont.

Can you list all the settings from the AI-tweeker BIOS menu and advanced cpu settings etc ?

uninstall the video drivers then reinstall the latest ones. Sounds more like GPU driver problems to me.

I would suggest insuring that your GPU is stable. If the GPU is running at stock then do a stress test using Ungine or Furmark which ever you prefer. Both are free.

Your system is stable if it is passing the stress test, however your GPU is not being stressed in any of those tests.

Already stated that my video and psu came from old system. It was a p35 chipset and a q6600. Both of these worked just fine in my previous build. that was a p35 chipset with q6600 processor.

psu is a thermaltake toughpower 750. using the Asus tools, I never see any deviation from the psu. All voltages are stable.

With furmark I can get the system to reboot.

take me a bit, but I can get the settings you requested.

    Disable PLL Overvoltage

Dont use CPU Offset use Manual - AUTO

Does it BSOD then restart on you while playing a game ?

    disabled pll overvoltage.

no blue screen. just a hard reset.

Last driver update resolved issues with skyrim and bf3. No more reboots when playing those games. However, reboots when trying to play Red Orchestra 2 and the original Mass effect.

is your GPU factory overclocked ?

I have had a similar problem running 2 x 580GTX on the Asus P8Z68-v Pro
after being unable to find the solution for a while i tried raising a notch the GPU voltages
    and it solved the problem.

my problem was not related to the motherboard but to newer driver releases requiring a bit more voltage on the gpu
when running certain DX11 games and since my cards were factory overclocked the "factory" (not asus) did not pick the right voltage for both gpus to be able to handle properly the newest drivers and dx11 games.
and i had exactly the same symptom as you.

    i hope this helps
