I have the setting set to Auto in the bios and it set it to extreme. Should I manually set it to something else?

The main question is what RAM speeds you trying to run and what timings. Auto will set to xtreme if running high speeds. I use the regular or high setting manually set for DDR 2500+ at 10-12-11-28-1T so in my opinion so agressive a setting is not needed. What VCCSA is this xtreme setting actually giving you???? I just manually set 1.25v for DDR2400 and 1.30v for DDR2500+ stable. It all depends on the IMC of the chip you have though.

A manual setting of Regular or High VCCSA LLC can easily handle a VCCSA setting of 1.25v.

Quick question about your ram kit, I take it that you are using a X79 kit and not two separate kits to make up the 16GB?

No my kit is not legit but it work pretty well so far. I guess it doesn't auto detect correctly. Setting to regular work fine so far and I do not OC the memory.

Ah cool thanks for the update mate - that cleared up a little nagging thought I had.
You will have to as you have worked out, set all the timings and voltages manually and even in the second and third tier sub-timings too for the ram to be rock solid. Here is an example of how memtest will be your best friend for a while![]()
