    ROG apu mobo

with the new upcoming trinity apu's coming out, i was interested if any of the current AMD motherboards will be capable of taking the chips or if they where planning on making a motherboard for it, reason being Republic of gaming motherboards are built for gamers, the APU series of amd processors are built for gaming aswell.
i have been considering upgrading to a trinity when they are release, reason being is for excelerated graphics and i was wondering if the ASUS Crosshair V formula 990fx will be compatable with them or if ROG was thinking of making a motherboard for them.

    sorry for my rambling.

Well Hello Again Pixxie, it's been a while. I'm sure if Asus is going to build it they won't say but I can help with a little of your questions. the New APU will most likely be compatible with the Current FM1 socket but the APU's are not compatible with anything AM3/AM3+. I haven't really worried about the APU line because it doesn't blend well with what I use my computer for but I've been looking in on them from time to time hoping soon they would so I could build a lower cost machine.

thats a shame :/ was hoping amd would realise that more people use the am series chipsets then any other and only work on making cpu's that fit for them, i think all amd's from now on should use the am## chipsets cause around 80% of amd users use the am## chipsets as they are easier to install and have easier cooling installation, aswell as looking nice

The problem isn't the that amd couldn't make a socket universal but it comes at the difference with the chip itself. The normal AM3/AM3+ socket just doesn't have enough pins for the additional GPU that the APU's all have. Now if AMD did create a universal socket they would have to up the Pin count from the current 938/940 to what's required in the FM1 socket but the normal AM sockets haven't really changed from the really old 939/940 sockets dated back in the 2006 era just how it's wired. but the FM1 socket is new and I do believe with the next gen of the FX line they were going to put the GPU in them as well which would require the change to the FM1 socket or maybe even an FM2 with more pins in it. As AMD stated back in 2007 with the announcement of the FX line that they were going to go with a GPU Core to handle the Highly Parallel Computations and Math Stuff and a Bulldozer Core to handle the Branchy CPU stuff. My opinion on this version is I can't wait because it would revolutionize how our computers work and play!

Intel make it clear at their last conference in Montreal, with the new 22nm CPU they will focus on thin laptop, small all in one PC. Many peoples start to look at tiny gaming PC like the new Alienware X51 , So I will not be surprise if Asus make one too. AMD will certainly have something they want to focus more on APU than High End CPU.

in all honesty they should determin how many pins will be standard for there cpu's in the next 5 years and then standardise the chip sets, make life so much easier for every1, and in all fairness if amd and intel want to make only thin cpu's for laptop and netbook there stupid, make them and then up them alot for high end desktops or workstation computers.

Hummm I thin I mislead somewhere, Intel don't want to make thin cpus, their new 22nm will use less electricity and produce less heat, so they gone be good candidate for smaller case and thin laptop. There gone be less gap betwen a PC CPU and a Laptop one, this will bring more power to laptop. AMD will have to contre atack with something too, or else....

its like the terminator cpu's... runs efficiently at room temp and requires less power but performs more processes then the human brain.... the machines will rise!
