i kinda found the same issue
if i down clock it to Reference card settings / speed i can run them fine
but if i keep them on stock 1000 Mhz, then it only runs in a few games, but crashes on the more demanding ones.

hey all,
i ordered a ASUS 7970 DCII TOP today.
man, if i get the same problems...
i will stay in contact with you.
greets from austria
Here's something different... Has anyone else switched the BIOS mode on their DC2T to see if the other one is more stable?

this is something i do not know how to do.... please explain if you could![]()
There is a tiny switch on the PCB of the card that faces out towards the side panel of your case towards the Crossfire connector, you have to look closely to see it. Shut your computer down then slide it towards the Crossfire connectors. Note: it toggles the DisplayPort port closest to the motherboard off and enables Dual Link DVI on the DVI port above the disabled DisplayPort port.
UPDATE: Crashed my system this morning testing Kerbal Space Program (it was a 7970 crash e.g. coloured screens and hard lock). So it could be power saving after the system sitting idle that helps to break things. *sigh*

hmm.... now that you mentioned that it does sounds familiar...
when my full rig is on non power saving mode, as in i manual over ride everything, it's 90% stable
but when i let the video / mobo / cpu go iddle with power saving features enabled, things can go a bit crazy
i didn't pay much attention to that but now that you bring it up, i'll try that again and see if i can get my 2x 7970 to work more stable.
i can be playing a few hours fine, and then BAMP! all of the sudden it does that colourful hard lock on me, and i need to hit the reset switch again.
nothing more tedious than doing a few hours of RPG game play and all of the sudden it dies, and the last save was from several hours ago![]()
hi i just want to confirm something, is this issue is not on the 7970 direct cu ii but only on the 7970 direct cu ii TOP?
i am currently choosing parts for a LGA1155 system
internals
i7 2700k (will overclock)
corsair h80 cooler
corsair vengeance 16GB 2x8GB (will overclock)
asus sabertooth z77
asus 7970 direct cu ii (will overclock)
corsair AX750 PSU (might upgrade psu, user will be running multiple screens or is 750 enough?)
case
corsair 600tm or the white version.
as far as i know its most 7900 range and all brands from what other forums say. ive seen 7950/70's and a few brands but we are mainly talking about the asus 7970 DCU ii Top, seems AMD drivers so i dont think it will matter what card....
I noticed that Newegg does not show the Asus HD7970 DC2 anymore as of yesterday. Not sure if it's related to the issues here but it seems odd.
MB:Asus Crosshair V Formula, CPU:AMD Phenom X6 1090T@4GHz, MEM:8GB Corsair XMS3 2000@1838, GPU:HD7850 @1210/1375MHz@1.14v, SOUND:Asus Xonar Essence ST, PSU:Seasonic X-850, Monitor: Dell U2410
Newegg i think has no more stock.... there does seem to be a shortage of 7970 DCU ii however they are still on amazon.com
