    Asus ares + xfx 5870

    Hi

I am currently running my system with an ASUS ARES graphics card. I also have an XFX 5870 (http://rwlabs.com/images/articles/gt...0_5870_007.JPG) graphics card, and want to connect them and run them in crossfire.
I am pretty sure that it will work, since ASUS ARES is 5870 x 2.
    So, my questions are:
Is it possible to run them in CF? And in that case, how do I proceed?

Stick a crossfireX bridge on them. Boot into OS and enable in CCC.

You might have to reinstall the AMD driver but that is about it

    Sounds great!
I still got one more question:
The ASUS ARES is a 2x2GB GPU, while my 5870 is a 1GB GPU. I know that the ARES will scale down to 1GB.
Will the 3 GPUs perform better @ 3x1GB, or will the ASUS ARES alone perform better with 2x2GB.

CrossfireX is great in that you can have different cards together. Unlike the green team where I could not get my cards to play nice.

Too bad that your card broke, my first ARES did also break, but I got it fixed.

It sure is nice to be @ the red team

However, I still wonder which configuration will perform best:
    ASUS ARES 2x2GB
    or
    ASUS ARES 2x1GB + 5870 1GB

If you have them go for the ARES 2 x2GB.

But if you are going to be buying them I would think hard about buying older kit. I might think about selling the one I currently had and looking at a 7970 card

I'm about to put a cat amongst the pigeons here but because the Ares is a single card with shared vram of 4gb it does not scale down with a 2nd card i.e 5870 with only 1gb vram . they are added together, if it was 3 single cards with 2gb 1gb 1gb it would scale to 3gb total.

I have proof thanks to my g510 keyboard and afterburner .

I have an Asus Ares + PCS HD 5870 total vram 5gb i have picutres of my vram usage touching 4gb which is not possible if it scales back to 3gb ??? ..

    These are my own experiences

this shows system ram usage. I alt+tabed out of BF3 running @ 5760x1080

    here is the vram usage
