GPU folding affect CPU usage -> less PPD while folding

    Hello guys,

a couple of weeks earlier I installed the new catalyst 12.3 driver (actually I downloaded 12.2 but it says I've installed 12.3) and now I get less PPD. It's about 15k. Today I just stopped the CPU folding and my two GPUs continued. Suddenly the PPD grow to 18k (9k per GPU) and as soon as I enable the CPU folding, the PPD drops to 15k again. I also managed out that the CPU usage for each fah-core16 is about 20%.
All clients are set up to advanced. With the catalyst 11.11 driver I had the best performance in games and the PPD was about 28k while folding all clients.

    Any suggestions?

    Best regards,

    FA

Could be different work types that have a different impact on the GPU core. The only way to know for sure would be to roll back the driver and wait for an updated PPD calculation with the same WU.

You may want to try adjusting the priority to see if you can get better performance on the GPUs but be aware that it may impact the CPU PPD.

Yeah that's what I was going to do. But I just sold one of my GPUs, now and this week I'll receive the new 7970 from Sapphire. So I'll check the PPD there and roll back as you said.

Edit: I just looked up the PPD for each client. So my SMP client made about 10k PPD and the GPU(each one) ca. 9k PPD. (But I don't really sure about the 10k, because I folded for half an hour, but I'll check that by folding during the night)

Try -smp 4 and leave 2 CPU cores for the GPU's ATI / AMD GPU's require 1 CPU core to feed them. SMP folding does not like to share CPU cores it has a rather high production cost. It is better if the smp does not have to share any cores.

@Grandpa, that actually helps, thanks! I got about 20k PPD with SMP @5 cores and one GPU. And I also see that the CPU usage is still 100% so that must have been the issue.
