Crosshair V Formula unable to install Windows 7 64 bit

    Hi guys,

Hoping for (a lot) of help.

I have built a new rig:

Samsung SSD 830 256 gb SATA III
    NVidia GTX 560ti 1GB
    Bulldozer AMD 8120
    Liteon Blu Ray read/writer
32GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 mhz RAM

I have tried every known configuration to install windows on SSD Samsung 830 256gb however have had no success in nearly 4 days. I know for certain that the SSD is fine as I have a second PC that is pretty basic and is SATA II which installed first time no issues at all.

I either get 1 of 2 issues... Windows cannot create a partition, windows cannot expand files past 0% and hangs. I have loaded AHCI drivers when loading windows, tried several different ISO files, tried BIOS with IDE, AHCI and RAID, used 2 different dvd drives with the same issues, unplugged every non essential item. I also bought a 2gb RAM stick at 1066 mhz to make sure that there is no issue regarding RAM size etc and tried every DIMM slot.

Has anybody got a successful BIOS combination as it definitely isn't hardware as this has all been tested.

    Thanks guys

You are trying to use your Bluray player to load the OS, yes?

Download the Microsoft Win7 USB tool - install your OS from the USB stick.

    Hi,

I have tried a standard drive and blu ray drive with the same outcome.I even went as far as trying a USB dvd drive with the same issue. I cannot get the windows tool to create a bootable flash drive, even diskpart has an issue as this states that the flash drive (tried on 32 gb and 4 gb flash drives) is not an active drive even if I try and create it as the active drive. If I use the windows tool it states that it can't create a file, so i tried 5 different ISO files with the same outcome.

I'm pretty frustrated by this as it should be very straight forward and i'm probably missing something really easy.

    Thanks

Can you put the SSD in another PC and delete all the partitions with disk management, after just try to install in the Crosshair, reset the UEFI (bios) first to make sure you have default setting. You mention you try with few ISO, where they come from, are you sure they are good ?

I know the ISO is good as I have used it on standard HDD however the SSD doesn't like it. I have reset the BIOS to default settings, removed CMOS to set back to factory settings, when installing windows I have deleted all partitions so the HD is empty. I really want to try boot from USB however I can't seem to get that to work which sucks! I know all my hardware is fine and doesn't clash I just can't work out what i am doing wrong?

Swap out your SATA cables and see if that helps. I have installed OS on the Samsung 830 at least 50 times over the last week or so, therefore can most certainly confirm that the SSD is compatible with the motherboard.

As to you really want to boot to USB I am a bit lost as to what that means. Could you expand please.

    You need more coffee mate

I think Bartlamania means to set USB as the first bootable device to install Win7 from it lol

    So bloody true I do.

In mitigation I have found it best not to assume anything on this support forum. So when in doubt I ask. Quite happy to look a idiot for a few moments if it means that we are able to help a user sort a problem out.

If indeed that is all the statement means, and does not mean he is unable to create a OS boot-able USB stick or even worse want to install OS on a USB drive (jk) then F8 is his friend.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I have tried 3 Sata cables so not the issue.

When setting up the Samsung 830 do you just let windows create the paritions of it's own accord? the first time i tried the hard drive was 'unallocated' and failed, when trying again the 100mb partition was created as 'system' and there was the rest of the drive available as 'unallocated' and again failed. I have tried to create the whole drive as system with and without the 100mb partition without any luck... the only way I can get the drive to even attempt to expand windows files is if 100mb system partition is expanded as the entire hard drive otherwise it freezes on copying windows and states it cannot create a partition. When the hard drive is used as 'system' it copies windows files and then failes on expanding windows files after 20 minutes at 0%.

Has the BIOS been left as AHCI, did you need to install with drivers from USB?

    Thanks again everybody

Honestly, I just throw a new SSD in any motherboard I have and let Windows Install and I have not yet encounter a problem.

I think you try to hard, as I said; put the SSD on another PC, remove all the partition, reset your motherboard, and let Windows Install with default setting, that means no partitioning no drivers from USB, and also make sure to have no other drives connected. Do all the thing I said don't combine them with other thing.
