Thread: Crosshair V Formula unable to install Windows 7 64 bit

    re Area66

    Hi,

I have had the issue straight from the box when it was supposedly ready to install,

I'll format externally and see whether I have any luck, I have just used UNetbootin to create a bootable USB drive (windows tool failed miserably to do this) just in case there seems to be a clash somewhere with dvd drivers.

I'm still concerned that this SSD will install 1st time over sata II on a very old PC which makes me think I have to change some BIOS settings however I am probably wrong.

NO, don't format it, just remove the partition, you have to reset the SSD like of it was new.

When installing windows it allows me to delete the partitions and leave the entire disk unallocated which is exactly like it was when I attempted to install first time?

Is there a difference doing this on an alternative pc?

    Thanks

so do it with the setup, just delete all partition and then click next without creating partition. The install will do it alone. make sure to have no other HD in the PC , just the SSD .

This is exactly what isn't working... I have tried this on many ocassions, deleted all partitions leaving the entire disk unallocated (as was when purchased) there are no other HD's USB drives installed the only thing active is the CPU, GPU, DVD drive and SSD plus keyboard and mouse which I have also tried to unplug on one of the many installation attempts.

This is what is confusing considering it installs first time on an alternative PC over SATAII which makes me believe it's potentially BIOS issue. I updated the BIOS to new before my first install as well so the MB is definitely up to date.

What is your OS medium? Are you using an original Microsoft disc? If yes download the Microsoft USB tool and install your OS via the USB. You do not need to do anything besides run the Microsoft tool and have a legit copy of windows. The tool does it all.

What port is the dvd drive hooked up too, it should be on port 5 or 6 and be set to ide in the bios, I've read about people having problems when having the dvd plugged into ports 1-4 .

    Hi,

Yes I bought an original disc first day (desperate to get off Vista ) however the windows tool states it cannot format or add files even though it's already formatted!

I'm hoping with my blu ray drive completely detached and USB boot then windows will work if not i'll be even more puzzled haha

    Hi,

I have used the drive in port 4 and via the Asmedia Sata port as well, I tried many combos leaving the SSD as AHCI and the DVD as IDE and SSD via Asmedia with no luck at all... i'm just very confused as to the issue as SSD shoud be plug and play but ot for me haha
