Nope you do not need both, what that will mean is no 7GHz over-clocking with your Bulldozer. It is better to have them both in as the Bulldozer is quite a hungry little CPU.

Makes sense, I guess there is no harm in getting an adapter for one of the molex connectors then. Unfortunatly I only have the adapters that go from a 4pin molex to the 6pin pci-e so I'll have to track one down on ebay or something.
    Thanks.

I got my new bios chip. removed the battery and installed the new chip and put battery back in. When I attempt to boot now I get a solid red cpu Q led, RC poster says cpu initial. I still don't have eatx12v_1 hooked up, could that be the culprit now or is my cpu dead?
Doing an RMA on the CPU anyways, did some troubleshooting and ran out of ideas.

Turns out the motherboard is the problem. I tried out the replacement 8120, pulled the board out of my case and onto a cardboard box and still got the same result. Started the RMA process, I requested that they test out the new mainboard with a 8120 and ensure it has a compatible bios before shipping it out to me.

Well everythings taken care of. My motherboard was not bad, when I sent the board back to the store I replaced the original bios chip. So they tested it and only needed to update the bios it seems as nothing was faulty. It seems the chip Asus sent me may have been the wrong one perhaps.
Anyway's the system runs great other than my powersupply making a high pitch noise which is very irritating..its working fine it seems but..I may have to try my 650w power supply out. As I don't run sli or crossfire I should be ok. I have also noticed that my 8120's speed is fluctuating from 1400 to 3400 to 4000mhz. It seems to sit at 1400mhz when idle mostly. Is it normal for it to be doing that? Or did I set something up wrong in the bios maybe? Everything is on auto/optimized defaults other than my memory speed which is 1866 and timings 9-11-9-27. Target speed shows up as 3100mhz in the bios, though I do not see the cpu running at that frequency at all. Only the ones I mentioned, according to cpu-z. I also notice the voltage drops/rises along with the speeds.

If your PSU is screaming I would change it now not wait. You can have a dead motherboard, CPU and graphic cards in an instant.

I thought my old one was a 650w but its just a 600w and only has one eatxv12v, I have a 4-pin molex to eatx12v converter but it doesn't fit into the very left plug, so I only have 1/2 plugged into the left eatx12v, and I plugged my other one which adapts from the 4-pin molex into the eatx12v_1 which it fits into, so I have 2 plugged in still. the 600w should be sufficient for now as I am not overlocking yet, nor do I run SLi and I have one less hard drive in this rig as well. Anyways the 600w is running great, no noise coming from it.
I am still a little puzzled about my cpu's clock speeds jumping around, is that normal? AS I mentioned the target clock speed in the bios is 3100mhz, but cpu-z doesn't show it ever running at that specific speed, it only runs at 1408mhz and jumps right to 3411mhz and/or 4013mhz. Only sits at 1408mhz when idle really.

Back in march I ordered my FX8120 finally along with some Patriot Division 2 15000 as they were on sale, and just finally got my cooler master 690 II this afternoon. I am using a new OCZ gameXstream 700w which I had sitting in my shelf for maybe 3 years, I just never got around to putting it in my old system so saved it for a new system. My video card is my old HD 4870.
So I got everything put together, took my time being careful making sure to get everything right off the bat. I hook everything up and boot the system to find I get no post nor do I even get a beep. I have had ROG connect up and running on my notebook playing with the poster and it sits on code 005A.. I have cleared CMOS every way possible and still no go. Moved my memory sticks around and still nothing, tried with just one in different slots and still the same result.
I have no idea how to find out what BIOS it is running currently. Could it be that the BIOS on my board doesn't support my FX8120? or is my board dead possibly? I can't afford to buy another AM3 cpu just for the sake of flashing the BIOS, so if that is indeed the case I am hoping that the computer repair shop here has a AM3 they can put in so I can update. Is there any way I can use ROG connect to flash my BIOS, or some way via USB?

Figured out that my cpu is just entering its power saving state. Performance is there when I play games or run apps, seems to be similar to how my notebooks Fusion chip functions which runs from 800-1400mhz then turbos at 2.4ghz with 2 cores. Everything's running as it should be it appears, temps around 30c idle\44c under load, Arctic silver 5 and stock cooling fan.
