    RAM upgrade

I am trying (unsuccessfully) to upgrade my 4gb 1600mhz ram to 16gb 1866mhz. When i instal into all 4 RAM slots i get an LED CPU/RAM error, if i put just 2 sticks in the system boots as normal. I also have to alternate the RAM slots, doesn't seem to work if i use 2 slots with the same colour code. I would appreciate any help/pointers on this problem.

I take it that you are not using one kit of ram.

And what ram are you using?

There is no guarantee with vengeance ram that you will get 1866 or even much over 1600MHz sadly. Even if they are one kit. What you are going to get is 1600MHz on an Intel system which is what those kits are designed for.

Please post the part number for you kit and then I can see if it is going to work or not.

I take back what I said. Your ram should do 1866MHz yes, how much more I do not know.

    But certainly 1866MHz.

OK time to make it work for you. Could you please download a copy of memtest ( I use the USB ver 4.2) and run memtest on each stick of ram one at a time. Once each stick has passed two cycles, both at AMD stock and if possible overclocked too. Then run one of those working sticks in each of the ram slots.

What we are trying to do is see if the problem is with the ram or the slots or both. If both slots and sticks pass then we know it is a BIOS setting that we will need to change.

    Cheers

Just about to run the test but as i was removing and replacing the ram into the slots the first 2 slots didn't work with any of the ram sticks at all. The first red slot gave both the cpu and dram warning light and the second slot gave just the dram warning. I am running the first stick in the 3rd slot at the moment.

Have ran memtest, all 4 sticks are ok but can't get the first two ram slots to work. PC won't boot at all with any ram in either of the two slots but works fine with single and double in the other 2 slots, one in the red slot and one in the other. Is there anyway to test the other 2 dimm slots?
