This is true?
With Nvidia retaking the single-GPU crown with its new GeForce GTX 680 graphics board, the next logical step in the graphics card wars is for AMD to answer back. Since it’s already launched the Radeon HD 7970, it naturally needs to kick things up a notch with a dual-GPU monster.
The Radeon HD 7990 is that monster, which will apparently launch on April 17. According to leaked specs, the card will have each GPU’s core clock running at 1GHz, with 1250MHz memory speed, and the 7990 will have a total of 6GB of GDDR5 memory. It will also have an updated cooling design to hopefully rectify noise issues with AMD’s previous dual-GPU Radeon HD 6990.
The card uses PCI Express 3.0 and 8-pin PCIe power connectors, and includes four mini-DisplayPort connectors and a dual-link DVI output to connect to monitors. It makes use of unlocked Tahiti XT 28nm chips, which should allow for the usual overclocked boards from third-party manufacturers.
You can expect to pay several hundred dollars for the graphics power of the Radeon HD 7990. Do you think it will be worth it?
