My system wakes from sleep no problem and the multi is at default value and at 4.2GHz when I over clock.

I do not have Dominator ram so I had to substitute with Geil and Muskins. My GSkill are different ratings so would not be the same.

Not sure if it is worth updating your BIOS to 1305

I will not let go of this little puzzle but it may take a while. A multi that is locked on 12x is indication of a failed OC you see. And the only thing that is or could be the issue that we have left is the CPU. Any way you can swap that out? Borrow one from a friend maybe.

    hi there

so - i had some time and tested some things between the seeting of safe default settings and optimizied settings as I already have the problem with the locked multiplier by just choosing optimized setting and not OCing.

The problem lies within the setting "Turbo Ratio" - if it is set to auto everything works (even when changing within optimized settings - leaving everything else @stock).
If I set it to "by all cores changing in OS" sth. like this I directly get the locked multiplier....

So *this* is the problem....has nothing to do with OCing!

Any ideas? Either this is windows related or the CPU is damaged?
But I think it must be the windows settings as the CPU operates normal even under OCing (No lockups, dynamic VCore and multiplier works, etc.)....

So....I have to check with my windows settings....

    Hope this helped?!

    *very stange*

I just went back to BIOS and changed Turbo Ration from Auto to by all core OS can change, saved the settings and reboot
After initialization the error message came that OC failed and the multiplier maybe locked at 12x!

Went into BIOS and just saved again (No changes) and this time it went through....

    Any ideas why this happens?
Is the CPU atfer all the error?

The CPU can be adjust freely on 3960X. But when you enable Intel Speedstep Technology , C1E . CPU may running at x12 (1200MHz) when it was idle. When you running the heavy application such benchmark or video rendering it will running at the speed you've config. It is normally.

But if you disable Intel Speedstep Technology, C1E and other choice below the C1E. The CPU is running at the speed you've config. Don't worries.

The words "Degrade" is described as " When you've overclocking your CPU at some point eg. 4.8GHz with Vcore 1.39V and tring use it at that speed for a long time. 2 weeks gone, suddenly , your've BSOD with your system. Now you may trying the same config above but it
need more than 1.39V for stable. These are called " Degrade" or " TABB " in Thai languages.

Do not trying to increse Vcore more than 1.45 if you've use Air Cooling. 1.55V for Water Cooling and 1.70V for LN or CO2. If not your CPU
    will be dead.

ok - what i dont understand: I do not OC!!! The CPU runs at clock speeds and VCore and I still got the problems with the locked multiplier both in BIOS (Error message) and OS (Standby probs) when just changing the settings from safe to optimized defaults....

And this is only due to the Turbo Ratio switch

So is this a sign that my CPU behaves irradical and is defective or not?
