Rampage 3 Gene northbridge heatsink help!

Hey all new user here just bought the rampage 3 gene working great until i play games where i get the IOH overtemperature warning. I took my motherboard apart removed heatsink applies artic silver 5 and am still getting the same errors. I am wondering if anyone knows of a good full NB heatsink replacement that would fit this motherboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time!

How do you know your board is overheating? What software or hardware are you using to measure. If you are using AIsuite I would not trust it one bit.

Download HWMonitor I have far more faith in that than the ASUS software.

While playing games my computer shuts itself down, upon booting it back up it says: IOH Overtemperature!!!. I am downloading HWMonitor right now to figure out my temps i just gotta run out for 20 mins and i will be back.

Ok, my NB temps are idle at 70C, when i load up bf3, swotr or diablo 3 beta it continually rises until it hits 100C then shuts down. (using HWmonitor)

didn't the rampage have that problem until the bios was updated? may not have been, but it seems like it.

I'm not quite sure i will look into that, from what i've seen the rampage 2/3's have problems running hotter than most other boards, only solutions from what i've found is reapply new thermal paste, or get a new heatsink w/ fan. Apparently applying pressure directly to the heatsink reduces temps by quite abit, stock nb heatsink could not be contacting the chip enough to keep it cool?

Edit: I cant find anything on a bios update fixing the problem

Another thing, If i replace the stock heatsink with a new one w/ fan that has no heatpipe attached to it will that work? Do i need a heatpipe if i had one previously or can i leave the previous heatpipe spot empty?
Was looking at this small all copper heatsink w/ fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...D=u6tkl3alkoyz
    Would that work?

Might be worth you while just to tighten the screws down on that board NB area. If the hold down method is those rabbis plastic pins (I do not have a R3G board) then swap them out for some 2mm nuts and bolts.

Hello again, I should have mentioned i did indeed pick up slightly longer screws for it and gave that a shot to no result. It seems i would have to make something that wraps over the top adding around 2-3 pounds of pressure, could be spaced out more than I am aware. But that would also probably cause heating issues due to the heatsink being slightly more covered, I am not quite sure what else to do besides just replacing the heatsink for something that cools it better and hopefully contacts the chip fully. I have been trying to find a heatsink that has a vertical heatpipe while also having a fan attached preferably made of copper that fits teh 1366 x58 chipset but cant seem to find anything of the sort.
This is my motherboard for reference http://rog.asus.com/forum/attachment...6&d=1316668573
