on for 2-10 sec, then crash

So i just assembled my new comp

    RIVE
    i7-3960k w/H100
    16 gig
    G.Skill F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL
    Corsair 1200w PSU
    Intel 520 SSD 120gb

plugged it in, hit power, its up for about 2-5 sec, then system dies....then after a few more sec it turns itself back on, runs for a moment, dies again. Its gone long enough for the ASUS boot screen to come up before dying, no idea whats going on! HELP!

googling CSM seems to be compatibility support mode... from what i can see it has to do with either the CPU or the ram... try booting with just 1 stick of ram... if that doesnt work try re-seating the processor

did that Z series ram not arrive yet or something i bet that is more compatible with x79
    Rampage IV Extreme
    3930k C2 stepping intel cpu
    Gskill 32gb kit F3-17000CL9Q2-32GBZH

You don't need to plug in either EZ_PLUG necessarily. (From what I understand, only folks using all 8 bays at relatively high speed (above 2133mhz) need to plug the RAM one in, and the 6-pin PCIe connector is only required if using a 4-Way SLI setup.)
I myself have 32GB of RAM (8 sticks from various 1600mhz/1.5V kits) & 3-Way GTX 580 SLI and do not use any EZ_PLUG.
    MB: Rampage IV Extreme
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930k (Cooled by Corsair H80)
    RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 (9-9-9-24)
GPU: 3 * Zotac GTX 580 AMP! Edition SLI
    Case: Silverstone FT02

hmm, well i just got another BSOD while running windows setup, this time it says ntfs.sys was the problem....seems every time i try to install on my new SSD it BSODs, plugged in my old HD with my original install on it, and it BSODs for a split sec before rebooting if i try running it now.....im just the most unlucky guy with builds

You might be unlucky with this particular build, but at the end of this learning curve you will know 1000% more than you did when you started.

What I suggest is that we take it one step at a time if you do not mind.

Before you install anything, or before you over-clock anything you need to confirm that all your gear is working correctly.

The first point of action is the ram. Why? Well with the X79 platform ram is crucial to the entire system. Sleep will not work correctly if your ram is even slightly out. Your system will run fine with no BSOD but the ram is still slightly out. So that is where we start.

Download Memtest86 I use the USB version. http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Remove all hard drives from the motherboard and if running multi VGA please only use one.
Go into BIOS F5 and enter (defaults) and then F10 and enter.

Then start testing one stick of ram at a time in the same slot. What you are doing here is ensuring that each stick is 100% working in the same environment.
Once you have completed that task, take one of the working sticks and test each of the remaining slots. Again we are ensuring that all our hardware is working, in this instance it is the ram slots of the motherboard.

Once done, you go into bios an enable the XMP profile. With the GSkill kits you do need to enable mode 2 if I recall.

Once done test each stick again at the XMP profile.

If all have passed individually, populate the slots as per the manual and run one final cycle of memtest.

You are now ready to install OS.

I would ensure your OS is as up-to-date as possible and the medium you are using without error. Discs can scratch. I like to use the Windows USB tool that creates a bootable USB installation disc of your OS. Negates the optical spindle as a possible error point. Since most DVD drives use a SATA connection and that is where your issue seems to be located.

Post back how this all went please.

I ran memtest overnight while i was sleeping, everything passed. It then booted up this morning saying overclocking failed (i didnt have any OCs on it.....) So reset the bios to defaults, changed the ram voltage and timings to what they should be, rebooted. Hung on Qcode 66. reset it a few mroe times, now its running and at the windows install dialog...seeing if it BSODs again

btw sorry i started the install before looking at my email to see your post

Ok well it installed windows, put in the RIVE installer disk, installed that all, now windows wont boot because the "required boot device cant be found".....even tho the bios sees the disk

Hmm so its now finished running the windows install+RIVE driver disk, but it wont boot to windows, it gets past the POST, then just sits on a blackscreen with the little blinking dot
