    Mrcougar's build

Hi there guys! I am realativly new to overclocking and case modding but am rather proficient at all things construction and mechanical and thought, how different could it be?? To top it off I recently became the Tech guy for the FD I work for and wanted to make sure that I have something to show for what I can do, and not just some guy who can move a mouse as directed. So here is the plan,
    MoBo: Asus Crosshair V
    CPU: AMD FX-8150
    GPU: HD-6870
    RAM: G.SKILL 4gbx4 2133
    PSU: Corsair AX850
    SSD: Mushkin 120gb Sata 3
    HDD: Seagate 1.5tb 7200rpm
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Case: NZXT Phantom

    Along with that is-
Black Ice 120 Rad in blue (poss. 2)
Black Ice 240 Rad in blue
Black Ice 360 Rad in blue

    Monsoon Red compression fittings
1/2" ID 3/4" OD blue UV reactive tubing
Primo Chill Anti-kink coils in UV reactive red
Primo Chill Single bay / Dual loop Resivoir
    MoBO water blockCPU water block
    RAM water block
    GPU water block
    CPU water block
    Dual Danger Den 237gph pumps
    4 cold cathode lights
and all the fans to go with it
(yes the color of the writing is the color of what ever it says other than the white ones they are black but black doesn'e show up very well on here, go figure!!)

    water4.jpg

The orange dots are 45 degree fittings, the blue dots are 90 degree fittings and the white ones are straight out. I'm waiting for monsoon to put out their fittings so I can get my colored ones.

The loops will be together but separate??? As the water comes out of the resivoir and into the first pump it will go to the 360 rad on top and then the CPU then it will go back into the resivoir BUT on the other side which goes into the second pump from there to the 240 RAD, GPU, first part of the MoBo cooler, 120 rad, second part of the MoBo cooler, RAM and finally dumps into the CPU side of the resivoir. I thought that this would allow the water to go through all the Rads and therefore will keep the overall temp of the water down.

More pictures will follow when I get home and get started on putting it together, hopefully Frozen CPU will have it at my house by tuesday when I get off.

    What do Y'all think??

    Paul

    Thanks Kipper.

Forgot to add that I will be sleeving and modding all the power cables, again in blue, and all the cables for the pumps and cathode lights are coming sleeved.

    Hey Paul

Did you look at the aftermarket sleeved cables for the AX power supplies on the Corsair site. I picked up a set in Blue for my AX1200 and they are really nice. The price is more than fair for the entire set of cables

kipp - Because corsair never answered me back about making the custom lenghts and combinations that I want, so instead of waiting for them (now its been 3 weeks) I will just do it myself.

Chrs - Thank you. When I get home tuesday I will take pics of the pre work, but I might still wait to put it all together until I can get the angles from monsoon.

The sleeving and new atx pins are in at home!!

Interesting WC plan - but it's the best?

    Welcome mrcougar53/Paul!

Nice components you choose to build your system! I found interesting your watercooling loop, so spent some time to analyse it. Did an other scheme (hope you don't mind) based on what I understood from your description - did I get it correctly?

    mrcougar53plan upload.jpg

Despite the initial enthusiasm I started to look at your build plan, I got some concerns. To start with, the two loops are very asymmetric - you're gonna have much higher restriction on your second loop (with two rads, gpu, mobo, ram). You will have hard time to synchronize the two pumps..., letting them to work at the same speed, you will overload the second one.

My other concern is the placement of the radiators in the loop. I think, it's not optimal... Not sure for what you will use this built, but I'm pretty much certain that the two hottest components will be the cpu and gpu. Sending the warm water on the "first part of the mobo cooler" (perhaps NB+VRM?) is not a good idea - under heavy load of the gpu, you may actually heat up this part instead of cooling... That 120 rad will not be enough to cool both your gpu and NB+VRM, so you are further heating the SB and RAM too.

Is it important for you to have this type of "cross" loop? Not saying that it wont work, just it could be done better regarding the cooling... If you want to stick to this, I would advise you to balance the two loops! Or you could do two completely separate loops... Or one single loop with pumps in serial - this case you should get the single loop version of the reservoir.

Let me know if you want to do changes and need help! Don't want to push you in any direction, these are just my thoughts...

ZKA - I was a little concerned about the asymmetticity (is that a word? if not it is now) of the system and the pumps being able to sycronize, but if I read the description of the resivoir right one can overflow into the other so they won't have to worry about out running eachother, if it doesn't over flow I can make them with a little tweaking.

As far as the 120 rad not cooling the water from the gpu and the NB+VRM for what it's worth the kit is goes to the NB then the rad then the VRM. I do have another 120 rad but didn't really know where to place it and thought about putting another 240 where the 120 is but not sure if it will fit. I should be able to check when I get home if fed-ex has delivered the boxx of goodies. Knowing what I have, what would you suggest differently? (please take that as a true request for help and not a smart ass remark)
