My temporary system - not perfect, but works

    Hello my fellow ROGers,

While I am working on the BlackBeauty project, I have to keep running a pc. Some of the components which are gonna be incorporated in BlackBeauty are presently built in a temporary system. Since the motherboard and graphic card are Asus products (top ones in their time), I thought that may worth presenting this system here...

Let's start with an overall picture:

    TempSys_1.jpg

And an other angle of the machine itself:

    TempSys_2.jpg

As some of you may recognized, this system is built in the slightly modified Thermaltake Dokker case. I've got this case almost two years ago, when i decided to build a decent pc for home use. Then it was based on different (non-Asus) components, so I won't detail it... The point is that the mods were done before, now I just trowed in new components.

A major mod was cutting out the top panel behind the docking port to place the Corsair H100. This is a mid-tower, the H100 wouldn't fit comfortably inside... I used an aluminum plate to adjust the opening. Additionally, changed the right side panel into one without the plexi window, and cut two holes for intake fans. The original fan holes were cleared from grills all over (bottom, rear, front).

Here is the opened view of the system:

I'm not proud about the cable management, but - as i said - this is a temporary system...
    Components:
    Asus Rampage III Extreme
    Intel Core i7-980X
    Asus ENGTX560 Ti DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5
    Kingston HyperX T1 Black 24GB
    Corsair Force GT 120GB
WD Caviar Black 2TB 7200 rpm
    Corsair H100
    Corsair AX1200

Silence was a major goal during building. The case is lined with sound dampening material (double and triple layer AcoustiPack) on top, two sides, front and bottom. Showing it on the right side panel:

    TempSys_4.jpg

The fans are all Noctuas (except for the two Cougar CF-12HPs on the H100): NF-P12 and NF-R8 as front intakes, 2xNoctua NF-B9 as side intake (VGA and Northbridge), NF-P12 PWM as back exhaust. The fans are all controlled by Zalman ZM-MFC1 Combo, except the two Cougars, they are controlled by the H100 itself. All intakes have dust filters.

    TempSys_5.jpg

Originally, it was a Noctua NF-P12 intake on the bottom too - but with a different psu. Since I put in the AX1200, it won't fit anymore..., but I still kept the dust filter.

    TempSys_6.jpg

So, this is my temporary system. The mobo and cpu definitely will go into Blackbeauty - both of them will get waterblocks. The psu, SSD, HDD are going too. Right now, not sure about the graphic card... This one is on aircooling and there will go with 3 GTX 480s in SLI...

I agree with you, my friend, this system would be good for several years. Just it isn't exactly what I want... Perhaps, after BlackBeauty will be up and running, I will get some parts for this and keep it running. But i will need to put some more work in it anyway.

The H100 is a noise creator like nothing else, the vibs from the pump, spread through the cpu/bracket----> case

    You know, EK, you know.....

And u dont need the foam in there.. ;o)

Well, I can not tell you how it would be without that sound dampening material... I put it there when I was modding the top of the case... - one thing I can tell you though: the system is very quiet! In the nights I spent working on it, the only noise i could hear was the air conditioning's (when it started, of course). I wish to point out here that the sound dampening material isn't just on the side panels... it's also on the front, top and bottom too. Also, the whole case sits on silicone and all fans (and the H100's radiator) are mounted through silicone washers...

Check my new tweakings on this system: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread...untry=&status=

Now, with the North Bridge cooler, I do get some sound... not too bothering though...
