Newbie here with some Crosshair questions

    Hello to all @ ROG,

My name is Kevin and I am new to your forum.

I have an older gaming system that I use for graphic design, it is a Crosshair MB and I have an ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 Series graphics card installed.

    My first question is:
    1. Will this MB support a quad core upgrade? If so could someone pass along some links?
    2. What are my upgrade options for Video? I need something with HDMI out.

    Thanks!

Not sure of part #, all I could find was this for info, http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD...specifications

It looks physically the same as the one in the link.

Also, here is the video card I have now, http://usa.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/A...0_TOPHTDI512M/

    The fan just died yesterday.

well a new gpu shouldnt be a problem i'm sure you can just drop a new one in,BUT the cpu, your motherboard supports older phenom chips and its gonna be hard to find one. and welcome to the ROG...... your probably gonna be looking for used cpu...overclock.net has used sales this cpu will work in your motherboard http://www.overclock.net/t/1244204/c...-price-dropped

Finding old CPUs for AM2+ is going to be a task try and find the best one. As trailer said a new GPU should be fine I just hope the CPU dose not bottleneck it.

EDIT: Found a reasonable priced am2+ phenomX4 not sure how reliable the site is but its a example- http://computerpartsdirect.us/index....=13#googlebase

Are there any GPU upgrades available if I leave the current AMD dual core CPU installed?

I don't really get your question. But from what I understand you should be fine with a 1gb card if im not mistaken.

sorry, I was confused, I re-read the posts left by others.

So, I can upgrade my graphics card no problem right?

Do I have to stick with PCI Express 2.0 only?

    Thank you,

From all the info you have posted and from my limited knowledge I think your mobo only supports pci-e 2.0 besides it dose not matter as only a hand full of mobos support 3.0 and only a few 3.0 GPUs(it will work in a 2.0 mobo) out there but I would make sure there is no bottle necking with a newer GPU paired with a older CPU. A little bit more info on your current setup and parts you want to use would be of more help.
