Thumbs up Anyone else have warranty issues with trace damage?

I asked if my trace damage by the cpu cooler mounts would be covered since the damage was by where the cpu cooler mounts and they sent me an RMA number two weeks later. I ship it out to later be told it wasnt covered because trace damage had been found and then get told they'll replace it for $147. So anyone else have any similar issues? Oh and another thing traces near the mounts for cpu coolers on a board geared tward gaming and overclocking is a total workmanship defect issue which should be covered under warranty. So I sent a package to the corporate office expressing my concerns and have received no response. Do any lawyers use this forum? I cant recommend asus rog boards to anyone until they stop designing boards like this or at least listen to their customers concerns.

Lovin my rog crosshair 5 board. But about to sell it. Heres why.....

Asus crosshair V board has similar issues as all other board designs with Traces to memory from the cpu too close to the mounting holes for the cpu cooler. When performing reviews and overclocking we often times swap coolers out on these boards. I have no faith in warranty on my current board so I am soon going to sell it. Just a little info if you just use a marker on your board to I dont know black out white lettering this will void your warranty.

Not sure you are trying to say.

If you damage your board why should ASUS RMA the board? That looks like user damage to me.

Or are you saying that is how the board was shipped to you?

I am a Pro Bencher and I swap out coolers, and remount LN2 pots on a daily basis and I have never not once damaged the traces next to a mounting hole.

IMG_0014.jpgNah this is about a screw not threading in a water block mount. But the fact is the board has a workmanship issue with traces near where such a cooler is intended to mount. Warranty states free from defects in materials and workmanship last I recall...

This is a non-warranty issue. Users are responsible for the add-in equipment that is used with the motherboards. The use of a CPU cooler that is known to damage motherboards is not the fault of the motherboard manufacturer. The careless design of the ECO cooler has been noted in more than one review.

If, as you have written, you are doing reviews you would do your readers a valuable service and review the cooler that damaged the board and caution them as to what you have found firsthand instead of placing blame elsewhere.

The most incredible blunder, is perhaps the inclusion of razor sharp mounting screws - As I found out, they will indeed damage your motherboard and void your warranty at the same time. The only workaround for this is to file the bottom of the screws yourself, but then again, why should you have to? Razor sharp edges on something that will almost certainly be touching your motherboard at some point is quite frankly, ridiculous.

I resisted to post earlier that you should have yelled at the Company that made your Cooler and not Asus because it's not Asus that's at fault. Most coolers are ether smooth softer Plastic or contain Rubber mounts that won't harm the Motherboard. Which brings me to my next question of why you would ever say that it's bad Quality or Workmanship when you purchased an item that would damage your motherboard? Was this done purposely or did you not research the product before hand? Sorry but Ignorance Doesn't Allow you any Room for Complaint when you claim to be a Technician.

To all who view this let this be a lesson to DO YOUR HOME WORK before assembly.

I believe both companies are at fault.
    1. Asus throws away perfectly good boards and offers replacements at near new cost.
    2. Asus issued my RMA despite my informing them of the type of damage causing me to waste money sending it out.
    3. They have as the time of this post ignored my further inquiry on this matter.

And as stated the cooler could have better design such as nylon screws (sure they may strip but that will allow them to sell spares.) I never claimed to do many reviews but I can say i've had enough experience to know traces can be further away from mounting points for cpu coolers. I also know instead of repairing the single trace with the gap no larger than a dimes width Asus would rather ignore it or throw it away and send a new one at my complete expense. The wasteful practices and the fact they would charge near new price and keep the rest of the board I sent is a sloppy way to handle things. They dont recycle?
