    PCIex 16 slots 1 and 3 questions

I know that ASUS recommends slot 1 and 3 for crossfire and slot 1 for a single card. I have 3 SSD's in RAID O, 2 HDDs and 2 optical drives one of which is using the ESATA port. I have an old PCIe x1 SATA 6gb card but the PCIe x1 slot is covered up by my Video card (Sapphire HD 7950 OC edition) If I move my card to the PCIe x16 slot 3 will I receive a performance hit or any other unwanted consequence.

    Thanks for your input.

Leave your Video card in Slot 1 and put the SATA card into any of the open PCIE slots...It doesn't matter if it's a 1x or a 16 time going into a PCIE-16 slot it will use only the amount it's made for without any performance hit!

Thanks for you quick reply . Boy do I feel stupid, had this card for almost 2 years and havnt used it since I got my CHVF and started using video cards that take up 2 slots. Just goes to show your never to old to learn something new, even if its already known by everyone else.

BTW I noticed your from Ohio, ever hear of a little town in the northeast corner called Ashtabula. Just being nosey.

Beautiful little town, great place to raise kids, nice and rural, but too much snow.

Not quite sure if it will make it across the Pond. DC's quick fix worked, popped the card in the bottom slot, instant addition of 2 more SATA ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports.

    Thanks again DC

Not a problem. Heck I just reread about that same issue a couple days ago but it was with a Failing PCI card that they wanted to replace with a new shiny PCIE version in a 3year old copy of CPU Mag. Every now and then instead of picking up a book like Lord of the Rings while sitting on the Throne I'll reread old Tech Manuals or Mag's just for refreshers...Most of that old info still applies today. Plus Mr. Tolkien did try to teach us how to live....lol
