    help needed memory dilema

    Ello folks
ive got a bit of a dilema with my ram. ive been running 8GB (2x4GB) of this ram Corsair xms3 (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) for ages @ the rated specs of 1600MHz 9,9,9,24,41,2T 1.65v without any problems in slots A1 and B1. i know that some motherboards will default the memory to 1333MHz but for some reason this has always defaulted to 1066MHz. in cpu-z it shows as PC3_8500F (533MHz) and in the bios in spd info it only shows 2 profiles 1066 and 1600.

yesterday i installed another kit of the same memory https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...odid=MY-290-CS but its showing as different memory (PC3-10666C9). in the bios it shows the 3 spd profiles 1066,1333, 1600,

when i installed it i just added the new ram to slots A2 and B2. booted into the bios and made sure the timmings were at the rated timings for 1600, 9,9,9,24,41,2T 1.65v and rebooted into windows where it shows 16GB installed (12Gb usable). at first i thought it may be a slot not working properly but i dont think this is the case.
i tried a couple of different settings to see what would happen and this is where it gets wierd.
1st i loaded optomized defaults which loads the ram at 1066MHz and in windows it showed 16Gb usable.
2nd i loaded the timings for 1333MHz. then in windows it showed 16GB (7.9 usable)

i read a thread the other day where somebody had an issue where they installed 16GB but only 12 was usable but i cant remember what he did to sort it. this has totally confused me as its an issue ive never come across before.
i took the second kit out in the end untill i can figure out the problem.
    any ideas folks??

    cpu-z showed slots 1,2 as PC3_8500F (533MHz) and slots 3,4 as PC3_10666C9 (1333MHz) but running at 1600MHZ

any help will be very much apreciated. thanks!

Bump. sorry to bump it but im totally lost when it comes to memory.

edit: sussed that my old it isnt as labelled for some reason. its labelled as Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) but shows up in cpu-z as PC3_8500F (533MHz)
i always thought this was odd but it was always stable so never sent it bk. i could still return it couldnt i as its has a lifetime warranty?

I dont see the issue. I asked this long ago and Raja explained it in depth .. (sorry cant find it)
In a nut shell here is how i remember it ... All ddr3 is 1066 .... dual channel reads 533/// half.
    therefore this is correct.
notice the xmp in the pic.... 800 .........above 1600 oc'd in the profile .. dual channel.

im not the most technical guy .. hahhaa .. ok so im the guy thats glad stuff is color coded ..
but this is what i took from it ....... so if i read your cpuz profile ... that is corsair 1600 memory..
or atleast thats what the package said.

Raja ? sorry for tha paraPhrasing .. when you get a second .. am i close ? hahaa

the problem isnt with the speed it will run at. the kit that has the wrong spd is what ive been using for a long time at its rated speed without any probs. the probs start when i install the second kit which has the right spd profile. if i load opt defaults the ram runs at 1066 with all 16gb usable.
if i then set timings for 1600 the ram runs at 1600 but i only get 12gb usable.
if i set the timings for 1333 then i get 7.9gb usable.
    thanks

edit. ive just been told to do this "try enabling the memory hole remapping in the bios" what would this be called in the bios? i havent been delving into the bios too long and dont remember seeing anythin like thi

and did you follow Raja's sticky in the crosshair section on setting up the memory.. ie setting Command Rate > T2 ect.. ??

the other thing .. when you say usable ... do you mean showing in windows as usable ? meaning the remainder is being
    used and/or reserved by System?

and the second set .. if you run just the second set .. does that report correct ?
another good place to look .. is in stickys ... Kipper started a thread on V memory profiles and one
of the members, Praz .. well go see .. you may find Your Ram profile there .. (i just looked up and saw t2)..hmmm

There are a few of them (ram) that are finicky on the V .. this as i recall 1600 and another
1600 were .... well .. the hair ripping turned into Kipper/Praz sticky ... and many other members..not to dis.
    http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread...ountry=&status=

you are more than welcome .. i wish i could give you a more direct answer... but im thinking
it is in the link above .... or 'your' ram ..

i built matching computers .. one would not run .. switched back and forth .. long story
short .. even though one of the cpu's (also exactly the same) loved the ram .. the other
refused to run on it ... (i switched out back and forth everything .. except the cpu...
so machine no.2 did the same with either ram .. psu .. that particular AMD cpu did not like
that particular memory .... crazy... yea 4 rma'z later .. and a trip to Mason's desk.
lesson learned.c.(yes, each new motherboard did exactly the same ... it was the cpu.)

    ello again
no i must have missed that sticky. ill go n check it out. thanks ive always set my comand rate at 2T as i was told this is the more stable.
usable as in, it shows the amount of installed ram then to the right of it in brackets it says (12usable).
i havent ran the second set on its own yet but it did read correct in cpu-z. im gonna try both in a while once ive read raja's sticky.
i'll go and do some more reading n see how it goes

the edit in ur 1st post "medial eh" i take it u mean my avatar? if so then yeah it is a godsend, i have suffered from crohn's disease since i was a kid. one of the things that come with crohn's is arthritis and im full of it lol. none of the pain killers prescribed are any good unless u want to be addicted to em. the weed is a great help as i dont take any meds and dont get much pain. plus i love my bud anyway and would still be smokin if i wasnt ill
if that wasnt what u meant then sorry for dumpin my sob story on ya

thats what I meant. (its off topic here .. This is an important issue. One the drug makers/aspirin pushers/ins. companies/because of
'their' wallets hate to hear. Talk about a game changer .. proof they care not to actually help. sorry for your issue .. they hate when
you refuse to be a junkie ... Cudos..Please put this in General Discussion- Id love to beat that drum with you. I got off the Vic/Perk/Oxy
train 15 years ago .. and never looked back.)c.

nice that ur intrested. as u have asked so nicely i will try to get a thread together in the general section. im not too good at putting thoughts into text though. if u know what i mean. i will try though. fairplay for gettin off oxy and others though i know how hard it can be. i spent many years as a heroin addict. not anymore tho and enjoying life
i dunno how people will feel about this kind of thread going up. ive only been using these forums for about a week. dont want to be taking liberties. as i said though i will try its just figuring out where to start and not end up rambling

Hey guys - nice thread going on here.

I would agree with Chris big time that it is a good idea to go have a read of Raja's guide.

The one thing you need to keep in mind is that what ever you set for the ram will be the settings for all your ram. Not just one stick or one set. So take your time and work out what is good for your kits and your system. Most of the time for 24/7 use a gentle 1600Mhz overclock is good.

ive read through rajas guide and the only thing i needed to to change was the read to read 5 and my cpu/nb voltage needed dropping a tad. i also disabled ecc. just with the 8gb it seems more stable so i'll get the other kit in and see how we go. all i want is to run it at its rated speed of 1600 with the 16gb usable.
i'll get bk to u however it turns out. cheers.
